renfrobrad

Former child star Brad Renfro, whose later career was overshadowed by his drug and alcohol abuse, was found dead at his home yesterday morning. He was 25.

While the cause of death remains unknown, there are reports that he had been out drinking with friends the previous night.

Upon being plucked from obscurity from Knoxville, Tennessee to play a witness to a suicide in 1994's The Client, Renfro was asked in an interview how the role would change him:

“I’ll always be Brad Renfro, born on July 25, 1982,” he said. “Nothing’s going to change that. It won’t be any different.”

Normally I would have something snarky to say, but I just can't do it. This is so tragic. He was a really talented actor.

I agree with the above - I can't say anything mean. It's just too sad. He was set adrift in Hollywood without any solid guidance, and his talent was soon overwhelmed by the excesses that come with acting fame. It's just tragic. I was really hoping he'd turn his life around. :(

he dated a friend of mine a couple of years ago and helped get her addicted to serious drugs (ie crack and heroin) and now she's in jail on armed robbery charges. so eh. i'm sympathetic to everyone with a drug problem, but in this case, i also can't help but think about the lives he helped destroy along the way of his own self-destruction.

I just saw that Nazi movie he did with Ian McKellean…he was really good in it. It's too bad. And for those who judge him harshly, he was 12 when he became a star. He was addicted to drugs by the time he was 15…I would say this wasn't totally his fault. If you're snorting heroin in your early teens, it's most likely because no one is watching out for you.

A 12 year old should be home at a normal time getting ready for bed and not out all night.

Never post here but this one made me sad. I loved him as Josh in Ghostworld. Plus, he is pretty much a deadringer for my husband 10 years ago. Sad sad sad.

I'm so bummed about this I can't stand it. He was a really good actor & seemed to be a pretty good guy. He just…got lost.

I had *such* a 12 year old girl crush on him & we are the exact same age. I think I'm sorta in shock that people my age are old enough to die…

Does that make sence? I mean, I know its kinda dumb cause anyone alive is old enough to die.

In moments like this I wish we could go back in time to prevent shit like this to happen. This is way too sad.

Bodhi, you said just bout everything I was going to.

I had the most ridiculous teeny bopper crush on him. I saw every movie. Tom and Huck, The Cure (so sad), The Client, Sleepers, etc etc…

He was quite talented and it's a damn shame that drugs made his talent obsolete.

This is just really sad. Like when Aaliyah died. =(

Unfortunately young people are killed every day. Several months ago two of the most beautiful and sweet girls I have ever known died in separate instances. My younger sister is a Virginia Tech student. Thanks god she was generally unaffected (aside from emotional damage of course) by the tragedy, but it really puts things into perspective about how I want to live my life and that there is literally no telling what tomorrow can bring.

I would imagine his death was somewhat drug related. Fucking sad shit.

I did kind of feel that way around Aaliyah - she was only a few days younger than me, and when she died in 2001, I was freshly out of college and convinced of my immortality…until that. And just a couple of weeks later, 9/11 hit.

There's always one person whose death reminds you of just how vulnerable life really is - and it generally happens in your early 20's.

"The Client" ring any bells? He was 12, I think, when he starred opposite Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones in that film.
