Tammy Faye Messner, who gave what would be her final interview to Larry King last Wednesday, passed away on Friday after battling cancer for over 10 years. Throughout her life, Messner suffered the philandering and imprisonment of her first husband, the imprisonment for fraud of her second husband, woeful financial issues, a drug-addicted son and the expanding cancer that would eventually kill her. And yet through it all she exuded kindness, grace, dignity and faith; leaving one to wonder where God was when the most undeserving of his flock endured several lifetimes of pain in only 65 years.

One of the few "celebrity" deaths that actually makes me tear up. Bless her and her family.

God was with her, and that is how she was able to remain cheerful and peaceful as long as she was.

Why didn't God take her cancer away and allow her to remain cheerful and peaceful for years to come?

She had her faith. I think it's enough that we let her die with it rather than mock it. We don't have to agree with it, but I think it's in poor taste to question her suffering when she was accepting of it and handled it so admirably.

Look at all the people she was able to reach through her faith, even in her extreme illness. None of us live forever, and we should use the time we are given to love and care for each other.

Geez, Tammy Faye's death may turn me into the good twin before I know it. I have to shake this off.

In my opinion, and just my own…trials and struggles make one stronger and increase the faith of the true believer. I am sure that there are many other people with the same problems as her, who look to her for inspiration. I am sure that her eternal rewards will be great! She was a good woman and will be missed.
Sorry to get all preachy, I usually am not this way at all…but I simply can not bag on this sweet woman….bring on someone I can trash like Brit or Lohan! I am sure Britany has been up to SOMETHING skanky.

Whoever wrote this obit is an idiot. She wasn't an innocent bystander in the first scandal. She was part of it. She then marries again and he just happens to also be arrested for fraud?

She may have changed and become a sweet old lady, but changing her past into something that didn't exist is a joke. She made most of her first fortune by ripping off people. Get it right.

Who did she "rip off"? Was she guilty of living an opulent lifestyle provided her by the donations of many faithful people? Yes. But did those people willfully send millions of dollars to a cause I believe she felt was right? Yes. Argue tithing is absurd (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tithe#Tithing_in_the_Bible) not Tammy Faye.

And your assumption that this woman was somehow infecting her mates and convincing them to defraud people is ridiculous and paranoid.
    Best,

Cord, what mere mortals are unaware of is that tithings are actually given directly to god. Tammy Faye and jim were embezzeling. OBVIOUSLY

    I agree with Kitchy's point in #6.

Personally, I believe in the force that created all things, I believe that it has a male/female duality, and I believe that every faith that's ever been created has simply been the inspiration of someone who was tuned in. Unfortunately, usually these faiths are turned into tools to control the masses. For example, if the Gospel of Thomas had been included in the Bible, it would be much harder to control the population with ideas like "the kingdom of heaven is within". What would women's role have been in Western society these past couple thousand years if Mary's Gospel had been included?

Anyway, I think that God is only concerned with our spiritual selves and the interconnectedness of all things. To ask why he didn't step in and save Tammy Faye's life is as pointless as asking why he doesn't save the lives of children, or why he allows wars and genocide to happen.

    Hi Cord,

Your question is a good one, a question many people ask when their loved ones die. The world we live in is corrupt, imperfect, and filled with pain. Our circumstances shape our faith- how are we going to respond? Walking in joy or walking with bitterness? When we live a life with God, we draw our joy from knowing Him. When we live a life with the world, we draw from bitterness.

Peace and love you to all, and RIP Tammy Faye.

good point, evil twin! I spent all morning reading a religious debate going on in one of the groups I joined in facebook. I got so sick of it, I decided it was time to come here for a lighter read and this is what I found! lol

I don't mind a religious debate, but I find one happening in a DEATH NOTICE thread to be pretty tacky. Not that I think one is really happening, I just mean I agree that I hope this thread doesn't turn into one.

I have this thing about death notices. Regardless of if I liked or respected the person, I think discussing it while being informed of their death is tacky.

Not that I've completely avoided that tackiness. ;(

I suppose my post might have seemed to invite a debate. That truly wasn't my intention, so I'd like to say up front that I won't be engaging anyone's arguments against what I said. I've always thought that the origins of faith caused people to ask this question, and I basically don't think it's fair to ask "why?" when someone dies when no one really understands the nature of God.

May God Bless Tammy Faye! I would like to comment that I was inspired by her comments, and her general view on entering the kingdom of the Lord.

I would liket to add that the fact that although she was dealing with this unforgiving disease, it never shook her faith. The statement, "God I trust You with Me.", was so powerful, it strengthed my faith in the almighty. We should all take the same initiative to give OURSELVES totally to God, and trust Him with ourselves, we'll ALL be in better positions, places, and with positive attitudes. I realize that He's all that I have, and without Him, I can do nothing!

Live life with no regrets! Live life for God.
