Late Wednesday night, at a comedy club in Manhattan, Rosie O’Donnell took to the stage for several minutes and finally admitted that Barbara Walters fired her from The View. This news is contrary to all of O’Donnell’s previous reports, in which she had stated that the decision to leave the show was mutual.

Rosie claimed onstage that Walters and other “View” couchmates wear earpieces through which producers tell them what to say, which she refused to do.

Rosie also confided that she and the veteran newswoman were actually so close early on in her tenure as moderator that Walters recommended Rosie use Astroglide, which, she added, took her by surprise.

That took everyone by surprise, Rosie. Thanks for not lying about being fired anymore.

i think her version of “fired” means that ABC wouldn’t give her the money she wanted. she did say on the air as she was announcing her departure that ABC wanted to sign her to a three-year contract and she wanted a one year contract. then i read on some industry site that she was asking for 30 million for one year while they were only willing to give her 10 million. not giving you what you’re asking for doesn’t mean you were fired…what happened here is that she wanted out so she asked for a ridiculous amount of money. i mean simon cowell of american idol is on the number one show on tv and he earns only about 20 mil…she obviously was sick of the grind of doing “the view” and looking at elizabeth haskell’s perky, empty head. the ratings were wayyyy up and she was bringing “the view” publicity like no show has ever gotten…there’s no way they fired her.

i miss rosie yourmom. she was funny and made the show real interesting to watch, especially politically. whoopi just doesn’t measure up. she’s shockingly unfunny actually. plus they have a second religious yahoo up there now, that sherri woman.

…thank god for joy. she’s about the only good thing left.

See, james, I haven’t watched since Rosie’s been gone either, but I always watched it for the cagematch potential. I admittedly know next to nothing about Sherri Shepherd, but I think they needed at least one more person with a more conservative “View” to give it more balance. It’s just not interesting to me to have people gang up on one person who is ill-equipped to defend herself. If they don’t want to get a second “righty,” they should get rid of Elisabeth and get someone who can actually explain/defend their viewpoint without getting emotional. Ya think I should submit my resume?

No, I don’t think she’s stupid, maybe a little immature. She doesn’t know how to have a serious debate and express herself without losing control of her emotions, and she lets personal attacks bother her.

I agreed with Evil about Elisabeth. She’s harmless, but under pressure can’t defend her point without resorting to being shrill and hysterical. On the flip-side, Rosie took every political debate and turned it into a personal attack.

We’re all entitled to have differing political opinions - hooray, dissent! - but that show lacks reasonable pundits of each end of the political spectrum. Both are appalling examples of liberal and conservation rhetoric.

you should e.t…you might be a little too coherent for “the view” though. i think you’ve pointed out why i can’t stand elizabitch…she’s is way too emotional but she’s also defensive and whiny…a deadly mix in someone i can’t stand to begin with. though i’m pretty sure sherri, while religious, is probably a democrat. she is also really stupid though…even more so than elizabeth. she admitted in a recent show that she didn’t know anything about politics, she thinks the earth is flat, she thinks people should be forced to get married…she’s kinda a nut, which would be cool if she was more coherent than the blond bitch. but she really isn’t. if i was a conservative foxnews looney, i might just think that ms. walters is putting forth the worst possible face on conservatism on purpose, god bless her little soul :)

Oh, it’s clear that they picked Hasselbeck because she’s perky and blonde and puts a terribly face on conservative politics.

What pisses me off is that every TV show that has both a liberal and conservative sparring tends to feature extremists on both ends. I have to figure that most Americans are a LOT more moderate in their political and social beliefs than portrayed by catty bitches (you know, like Sean Hannity) on TV.

I enjoy Hannity & Colmes. You can tell that the two guys like each other and they joke around quite a bit. They don’t typically yell over each other and I get to hear both sides. I also like that they usually have Alan interview the person on the “right,” while Sean interviews the person on the “left.” It keeps the b.s. quotient down.

I loved Rosie and tuned in daily while she was on the View. Whoopi is sooooo unfunny, and her tendency to cut off topics when they become too intense is annoying, but that’s nothing next to the stupidness that IS Sherri Sheppard. From the day that she was asked what she would tell her kids about whether the Earth was flat or not and she was at a COMPLETE LOSS before answering that she would tell them that YES IT IS, I couldn’t watch the View anymore. It is just too painful to listen to anything coming out of Sherri’s mouth. From the uneducated statements on almost ANY topic to the bible-thumping blabber spewed daily, I will not be watching the View until Sherri Sheppard is gone. I hope other people will do the same and expedite this dimwit leaving the show.

the really bizarre thing was that sherri was really good as a guest host. she was funny (she is a comedienne, isn’t she?), cute-in-a-best-friend-way, had a very calm, reassuring presence and seemed very level-headed, a good counter to the great, if loud, rosie o’donnell. so i understand why she was asked to be a permanent host but something has gone very wrong. i guess she kept the crazy in check long enough to get that contract and now her freak flag is flying high!!!

I have always known Rosie O to be the most honest person on TV ever. People are taking personal jabs at her for her weight and her sexual preferences. That is her business to do as she pleases and if she is happy, good for her.

I think Barbara firedd her for many reasons other than not saying what she was instructed to do.
Walters is a jealous woman and who didn’t like the responses that Rosie O was getting from the audiences. Why the hell didn’t she fire Elisabeth the fake christain? Everytime there are any stories regarding that moron, about 80% of comments are people who also cannot stand that intolerable, snorty ass ugly, despicable bitch.

Rosie O is self made in spite of all her problems from the past and Barbara is an old fart who had to work so long to achieve what she has. Sherri Sherpard is one of the best as is Whoopi Goldberg.
Joy Behar is cool but she too is a kiss ass at times.
