Michael Savage, talk radio host and nominee for Biggest Idiot of the Year, is refusing to apologize for remarks he made on his show regarding kids with autism. For those who missed it, he basically said that children diagnosed with the disorder just need a father around to tell them to "act like a man" and stop screaming and crying. This naturally sparked outrage amongst everyone with a brain, but Savage sticks by his theory:
My main point remains true. It is an overdiagnosed medical condition. In my readings, there is no definitive medical diagnosis for autism.
And to make this all OK, he plans to turn over his show on Monday to parents and callers who disagree with his educated theories. Oh, if only an hour were enough.

He should spend one day as the parent of a child suffering from autism (or any disability) and maybe it would melt his cruel, cold heart.
He's probably one of those who don't believe in climate change and drives a Hummer, still believes that the war in Iraq is to keep America safe from the terrorists responsible for 9/11, and thinks that gay marriage and/or civil unions will result in the destruction of our civilization.

I have a long-time friend (his sister & I have been close friends about 20 years). He is DEFINITELY a no-nonsense kind of guy. His son is autistic, and no matter how strong a father he is, his son is STILL autistic. He's an awesome kid, though. Acutally-his father's PATIENCE with him has brought him a long way. Not all autistic kids "scream and cry". How does a strong father handle autistics kids that aren't very verbal? Force them to speak? Nothing about this guy's comments make any sense at all.
People missing one leg need to just man up! Peg legs are over-prescribed in this country!! If the mono-legged had better fathers who just backhanded them once in a while, they would be able to walk just fine! I don't know what they are bitching about. Oh, don't get me started on the Handicap Parking travesty. Those spots are mirages for decent, lazy motorists. They're *always* open - where are the people with disabilities? - and fool able-bodied people into thinking there's a spot available for them. Fucking disabled people.

I spent a summer working at a day camp, which happened to be the only one in the city (2 million people) where children with disabilities were accepted. We had a lot of autistic children and they were the sweetest kids I've ever seen. Most of them didn't scream and cry. Of course the degrees to which the kids were affected varied quite a lot, but it was still one of the best experiences I had. One autistic boy we had was absolutely amazing. He was blind but after speaking to him once, he would memorize your voice and could recognize you days after the first encounter. These kids were so full of love. I have to give credit to the other kids in the program as well. As teasing goes along with all children, the non-disabled children were extremely accepting of the disabled ones.
I don't know the cause of autism, but I just wanted to share a great experience I've had with it. Obvisouly, it's not always great, but the good and the bad of the situation really was an experience I wouldn't trade.
Mike Savage is a useless ass. I don't care how many college degrees he has. He doesn't have a clue or any common sense. He should be fired.

First blah, yes Dr. Savage is a doctor,seems you are not so smart as you think. AND if any of you listened to Mon/Tue broadcast you would know that many doctors and health pros AGREE that many, many mistakes made when putting a child (mostly boys who are high energy as normal boys are) in to an austistic catagory. There are no blood, MRI etc test that show any signs that can prove in any way that autism is an abnormality. So there!
