Because we're haters who don't like anything but gloom and bitter coffee, we're still kind of WTF? about Scarlett Johansson's cover album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, composed almost entirely of Tom Waits songs. Some people disagree with us, but that's cool, because we know they're wrong.
Decide for yourself with this video for Anywhere's first single, "Falling Down." After watching the teeny movie in its entirety (keeping an eye out for the famous author cameo), then compare it to the Tom Waits version here. Then try to fully comprehend just how little soul the cover has.

Gong! Please leave the stage.
Love Tom Waits. Saw him in Chicago at the 7 11 when he was doing "Franks Wild Years" years ago. I said thats Tom Waits and his friend says go say hi to him so I did. (He said hi back I was thrilled). Anyway this version is just boring.
ACK!
Toots wants to apologize for vomiting all over the Internet after listening to that horrible, HORRIBLE song.
Her voice is nasty. It sounds heavy and flat. Just call Toots Randy Jackson because "that was a little pitchy, dawg."
i thing it's ignorant and annoying when people that refer to themselves in the third person.
cooter wants to know why toots refers to him/herself in the third person.
Ha Ha AA!
glad to know I'm not the only one…LOL cooter…
Terrible. Just terrible. Visually and audibly unappealing garbage.
Damn third person talkers, I totally blame Elmo. I want to kill that fuzzy red bitch in the face.
hahaha i thought you wrote "emo." as in "emo phillips" who has never done ANYTHING WRONG! but you blame elmo, which is cool with me.
i agree about the third person thing. toots pisses me off every time they comment.
and of course this cover is horrible. she sounds completely soulless. yeah, she's on pitch, but that really shouldn't be something you should be touting on a recording. it should just be expected. tom waits should not be messed with, except for actual musicians who have GOOD ideas about changing up his songs.
I don't mind it Toots. But I do mind this scar jo "music" but I don't mind the link to the original but I do mind not having a beer.
Oh my God that's bad. Horribly bad. Painfully bad.
I'd heard her sing before and thought she was half-decent. But wow this is bad.
omg is that david bowie singing back up? WTF?!
It sounded so monotone. Her voice surprised me. I wasn't expecting it do be good but I expected her voice to have a different quality than that … looking at her I suppose I thought it would be more smokey and not so "heavy and flat" (I agree with whoever said that)
It's not dreadful but she's not ugly and drunk and depressed like Tom Waits so it just doesn't hurt like it should…maybe this is why covers are so tricky. this is almost roxetteish.
is that a robot singing?
For the life of me, I will never understand the music of Tom Waits. When I lived back in NYC, my hipster friends tried to get me to listen to his music and he sounded like a pissed off whino.
Scarjo is so cute with her little cover album. It must break her scenester heart that the only reason why she got a record deal was because she is a hack actress with a body for sin.
*sips more Haterade*
A moment of silence for Bowie's serious misjudgment.
