'Most Men Are Sluts'

laurenhutton.jpg

Model Lauren Hutton, who participates in an industry that mainly requires her to keep quiet and look pretty, should probably continue to do just that. In a diatribe on The Today Show, Hutton criticized Sex and the City for portraying all women as sluts:

It's written by guys, who happen to be gay, who are sluts. That's what I think.

Let's face it: Most men are sluts. That's what testosterone is supposed to do. As a hunter, if you stayed alive after 30, nature wanted your genes out there. Women were just trying to get the best sperm to make a masterpiece.

You have a bunch a guys who are sluts, writing for women and telling them they are supposed to act like this.

Sure, you could maybe argue the issues with stereotypes, but the main writer behind all this is Candace Bushnell — definitely not a gay man. Sadly, Hutton is a prime example of someone who probably has something worthwhile to say who simply comes across as crazy.

She and Sharon Stone should do lunch at the Ivy. The ensuing footage could be turned into When Cougars Attack Over Waldorf Salads! Gotta be better than reruns this summer.

I've read that she's said sexually inappropriate things before in public. Look, she's older, been famous for a long time, therefore, thinks she's entitled to say what she wants to the press, regardless of it's content or who it will offend, AND had a terrible motorcycle accident which could have affected her brain, especially the lobe that controls outbursts, controlling behavior and aggression.
I'll tell you one thing about her though. She IS still a beautiful woman and, as a 53 year old woman myself, I'd love to see her in more ads and magazine pictures. I'm sick of looking at prepubescents and 20 year olds photographed and used as illustrations on how to make my face look the best it can be.

i'm so sick of hearing about sex and the city. four rich whores run around acting like rich whores; what's the big deal? why is it worth talking about everyday? if all women like sex and the city then maybe i should trade in my vagina for a penis because i just don't get the hype.

I'm sorry, but she's right. Candace Bushnell wrote the book, but the show, which is what people actually know, is a Darren Star project, through and through.

It's Darren Star's project, but the basic formula for the book (and any other Candace Bushnell book) is rich life, high fashion, drinks, and slutty behavior. So, still her problem. Also, as anyone who <3s this show like me already knows, they had a writer's room for the show which included a bunch of women who would take ideas from dates they had recently been on, and turn them into show ideas. So by highlighting this, all she pointed out in reality is that Women Are Sluts. And if my college record is anything to judge by, she's right.

Sex and the City had a staff of writers who were ALL WOMEN. The plots are based loosely on their real experiences in life. Lauren needs to shut her big, fat, ignorant mouth. Why talk about something you clearly know nothing about? Moron.

I HATE, HATE, HATE this show. I want to throw a brick through my tv every time I see those women from SATC on my screen.

Women don't act like that. They don't dress like that. They don't talk like that. I don't care if a woman is the head writer, this show was created by a gay man and it is mostly written by gay men.

Gay men love caricatures of women. They objectify us. They think that SATC is how it should be.

I love Lauren…she is spot on in her observations of this vapid and banal show. I know we seem to be in the minority…but as far as I'm concerned…great minds think alike and there are not enough of us in this world.

As someone who has actually read the book by Bushnell, the women in the book are actually far worse, not only with sex but also with drugs. The show's characters are actually watered-down versions of the originals.

And Sadiehawkins, your generalization of gay men is just as bad as what you claim gay men writers have done to all women (portray them as sluts).

SATC has 11 different writers credited for the show. Ms. Bushnell actually penned the novel the series is based upon.

Sex and the City is one of the greatest shows about how funny, intelligent, women really talk. Women seem sluty because they go through so many guys trying to find one they are ready for, connect with, etc, etc. One must get past the entertainment part, and get that it's at least trying to be honest about urban women's minds and experiences. Lauren is the shit- and real. She has opinions, like the women on the show. That's the whole point- opinions- weather any asshole likes it or not. The best part- is how much it pisses people off-especially straight men. It's about time they got as put off; as most women have been that have a brain, by all their asshole shows.

Some Greg guy got credit for the "He's just not that into you" bit, so obviously it wasn't all women watching the show. Though my friends and I really like to focus our conversations on all the whoring around we do.

One thing I really liked about the SATC characters is their ability to accept each other, for the most part, and not be super judgemental. Yes, it's there, but they're way better than me, especially Carrie. I have tried to learn to be less critical and verbal about things I don't agree with, all thanks to that show.

Lale, you mean Greg Behrendt. He wrote for the show for a few seasons and was a consultant for awhile after. He's a straight, married guy, btw.

Um, as an "urban woman," I must say I don't identify with SATC regarding how I think or live my life. But it's popular as an escape from reality. I just watch for the clothes, for heaven's sake. I'm sure my straight guy friends prefer the nudity but nevertheless, they like the show as well.

Like Deimos, I'm a girl who doesn't like the series at all. I can't identify with it all. From the pictures of the show I've seen in gossip magazines, I don't think the clothes are all that - most of the time the clothes are just too outragious. But maybe it's just me - I'm just not as much into clothes and fashion as most other women, I'm afraid.

It is especially goofy to hear bitter women on this board say men are bothered by smart independent women – hardly. The women I have gone out with over the last few years don’t act like the self obsessed materialistic ones in the show, but by most standards are very smart and successful (partners at investment banks, doctors, engineers – and yes, they went to Harvard & MIT etc…). Frankly they wouldn’t have the time to spend hours obsessing over shoes, they have jobs and lives.

However, I do see women like those in the show, and they tend to be second rate wanna be’s who spend more time complaining how they aren’t recognized for their brilliance, drinking and shopping than actually doing things that would get them ahead. The sorts who go to a second rate business school, but MBA after their name on their business cards, and wonder why they haven’t been made partner given their brilliance in making press releases pretty.
