Deafen your children, dutiful parents! Jessica Simpson's new album is upon us, and boy is it terrible. Hahaha; just kidding. We'd rather have dental work done with sharpened chicken bones than listen to modern country music – yes, even Rascally Fats or whatever – so we have no idea how Do You Know sounds. (Maybe it's like Bowie!)

We can tell you that the last track is a duet between Simpson and Dolly Parton, which saddens us greatly. Oh, Dolly, what have you done?

Listen for yourself here.

i don't get it, STM, what's wrong with it

btw i went to the page, and clicked the "preview the album" link - and the first half is DEFINITELY worth a watch. her top lip is SO clearly paralyzed, and she's half-coherent - I try to give the benefit of the doubt, you know, but this video reeks.

ps when the song starts after she's done talking, DO NOT LISTEN. its more horrifying than the Christmas Shoes.

"simpson looses record"

I inadvertantly saw her at the county fair.

She sounded good. Not "superstar good", but "she could play at some club and everyone would be happy" good.

Although, I may have been drunk off the DEEP FRIED OREOS!!! They were GREAT!

Jessica Simpson. David Bowie. Yes. I can definitely see the reason those two could be compared. Every time I see a picture of Jessica Simpson, the first thing that comes to my mind is, "Oh baby just you shut your mouth."

No one is going to buy this, and if you want to keep up appearances, you'd better make up a story QUICK about why you were at the county fair at just the wrong time, and whether her top lip moved when she sang.

Growing up in Indiana, I've made many, conscious efforts to avoid country music - and probably just as many efforts to explain to people why the music I enjoy is better than anything they could be listening to (usually I was very nice about it). During an internship last winter, however, my music-world came crashing down due to the fact that every single person I worked with LOVED country music. It's all that I listened to while I worked, unless I was fortunate enough to be stuck doing some crappy job alone and I was able to pop on my headphones.

Anyway, the point of all of that is that I learned something about country music; overall it was WAY worse than I could have ever imagined. I actually heard a song called "honkey tonk badonk-a-donk". No lie. When I think about rascally fats and that american idol girl, I really have to give them their due. They picked the absolute worst (in my opinion) genre of music to associate themselves with in this day and age and somehow really classed it up.

I still hate country music, but as a music lover, I feel very compelled to tell those that may have not been enlightened yet, that Pop-Country (I don't know if that's a real thing) really does have some artists that shouldn't be clumped in with all of the other terrible acts.

I don't know anything about Jessica Simpson though and I'm not clicking that link to find out.

Does anyone know who she is referring to in this song?

Spottsy, I feel for you. And yes, I think pop country is the term. The only good country music I've heard in ages is Hank Williams III. He's "here to put the dick in Dixie and the cunt back in country". Seriously, he's fucking awesome.

Spottsy I agree with you wholeheartedly. I can not handle country music to save my life.

You reference Carrie Underwood the "Country Idol". She was the source of an epic smack down at my family's Thanksgiving celebration when she performed during half time at whatever football game was on. After my pleas to have the TV muted went unheeded the rage in me came out.

I have never liked anything that Jessica Simpson has had to sing about and I know that I won't start now. I actually met her once, pre-reality show, when I worked at a hotel. She was polite but pretty cold. I couldn't really blame her though because a creep from one of our restaurants basically stalked her while she was there.

I have no idea why I clicked on the link. I also don't know if it's good or bad that I never heard the song, just Jess blathering on about how "it's important for, um, people, to, you know, take to the message…" The five seconds that I heard of THAT made me stab myself in both ears with an awl.

Who's writing these God awful songs for her? Ugh. I admit to liking country music but these songs are tragic. One line that comes to mind is "leave your ice cubes in the glass, just come on over".

sar, let me fly under the radar on this one.

It's like how I "inadvertently" bought that blouse and those shoes. (Yes, please put those in that goodwill pile.)

I WILL tell you that I didn't pay the 60 dollars that they wanted for the ticket.

She really wasn't so bad. Not "Montag Bad", anyway.
