Okay, this is the first season that I've watched American Idol, but don't they bring back a few contestants for another shot at the crown? And aren't these people under contract with the American Idol entity as well? I'm wondering how much of it is fame going to their head, and how much is just what it takes to become successful. Hell, all Ashlee Simpson had to do was have a famous older sister, and that led to her own 15 minutes.

lale, there has never been an instance where eliminated contestants were brought back. Aside from Season 2 but that was to pre-determined to give those eliminated in semi's another shot at the finals. That's how Clay Aiken got into the finals if my memory serves correct.

And I do believe that they are under some sort of contract in which they cannot sign with another label until a certain amount of time has passed, which I assume gives the winner a chance to release their album first and try to monopolize the audience.

I thought they had wildcard people or something?

I think Season 2 was the only time they did the wildcards. I could be wrong, but it's definitely been a few years.
