This time last year, everyone was discussing Britney Spears' disastrous "comeback performance" at the VMAs, something we called a "calamitous waterloo." One year later, last night Spears won all three Video Music Awards for which she was nominated, spoke without incident and read all the big words on the teleprompter. Basically, she behaved like a normal person in abnormal circumstances, which is all anyone has ever asked of her.

So it is: Robot-mode-on again.

I don't like her "music" and I think she is an airhead (partly because career over education). But I have to admit that I feel sort of pity for her and her controlled life. Must be strange to be a money machine from the early years on. And the moment she escapes the watchdogs she obviously is not capable of managing the most basics tasks and everything falls apart. Till the minders take over again….

It's obvious that her manager, Larry Rudolph, calculated this whole deal with MTV as a mirror-image PR move from last year. In exchange for her opening the show, Britney (who never won VMAs for her most popular songs & videos) will win three major awards for one of her weakest singles. While doing so, she'll accept them with brevity and grace. Everybody wins, except for the viewers, who got a terrible, pre-programmed awards show.

How obvious that she'd win awards after all the preshow announcers were saying, 'You know, Britney hasn't ever won an MTV award.' So Surprising. She didn't deserve them because she sucks. Total pity party for her. She should be embarassed.

Is it wrong that I totally want to make the beast with two backs with Larry Rudolph?

Pity Party INDEED!!! Even though I'm not a Britney fan, there's no way anyone can tell me that "Piece of 'Crap'" video was more deserving of an award than "Baby One More Time"; "Stronger" or even "Toxic." (I have to know these because my niece used to force me to watch then when she stayed over.)

I will say that she looks great and seems to be getting her life back together - I can't fault her for that.

"spoke without incident and read all the big words on the teleprompter" -

So, I guess MG considers "anniversity" a word…interesting.

Admittedlyaddicted, of course "anniversity" is a word. Well, I could be wrong, but I believe anniversity is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era. Or was that "diversity"? Damn you Ron Burgundy!

"Piece of me" peaked at number 18 on the billboard top 100 and was in the top 100 of pretty much every other country it was released in. It was number one on Billboard US Dance play for a while too. On youtube it is the thirteenth most viewed video with 50.1 million views. It went platinum in The US, Denmark, and Australia.

Sounds pretty weak
