Good Ideas

Alejandro González Iñárritu, the curiously handsome Mexican filmmaker who did 21 Grams and Babel, has signed on to direct a series of shorts for The Meth Project, an anti-drug campaign set to reach 80 percent of Montana teens in the coming weeks. Are you thinking that maybe the man behind a movie with quotes like "I just ran over a man and two little girls" might be a bit too heavy for Midwestern teenagers? Just wait until you see some of the spots that came before his.

I grew up in Montana. Meth is out of control and the Montana Meth Project has finally started to make some headway. I use those ads as teaching tools in my current state of Louisiana and they are so effective. They are the only anti-drug ads that don't get that eye-rolling, "OMG this is so dramatic" ennui that other ads do. Instead, the kids sit up, watch, and are left speechless.
