DIVA-ISH LOHAN'S 'BETTY' GIG AXED EARLY "It got so ugly on the set of 'Ugly Betty' between Lindsay Lohan and the popular ABC show's star, America Ferrera, that Lohan was cut from an agreed-upon six episodes to four. One production source said, 'It was a mess.' … One episode, titled 'Granny Pants,' was about how Lohan, playing Betty's high school nemesis, would 'de-pants' Ferrera. But Ferrera exacts her revenge and pulls down Lohan's pants instead. 'Lindsay wasn't wearing any underwear,' the source said. But a Lohan pal fumed, 'Bullshit! Lindsay wears underwear all the time now. She was wearing a G-string. And it was America's fault. They were rehearsing the scene and America wasn't supposed to pull Lindsay's pants down - but she did. Lindsay was so embarrassed, she started crying.' … The pal blames Ferrera for any issues, saying, 'America was mean to Lindsay. Producers give her too much power. Lindsay didn't do the last two episodes because America didn't like her and got her kicked off.'"

GETTING UGLIER "[Lindsay Lohan] will appear in the season finale of Ugly Betty, a rep for ABC confirms. … An on-set source says Lohan filmed her scene — a flashback in which she plays America Ferrera’s high school friend — yesterday. 'Lindsay was on time and actually arrived to set early,' says the source. 'She did a good job.'"

Debbie Matenopoulos was kicked off 'The View' for a reason

sag_arrivals_054_wenn1738184.jpgwenn5080810.jpgsag_arrivals_012_wenn1738182.jpg

We never thought we'd say this, but we missed Ryan Seacrest last night during E!'s red carpet coverage of the Screen Actors Guild awards (he called in sick). Between Giuliana Rancic and Debbie Matenopoulos, we were contemplating gouging our eyes out 20 minutes into the hooplah due to the extreme level of awkwardness these ladies achieved. Debbie forced poor Debra Messing to listen to her discuss her hair straightening regimen for what seemed like hours (Debra had an appropriate "What the hell?" look on her face the entire time), and then Giuliana treated us to a rant in which she criticized the media for making a circus out of Heath Ledger's death. Which is appropriate, since she works for one of those media outlets and all.

But our favorite moments had to be when Giuliana and Debbie would butcher the celebrities' names, often during an interview with said celebrity. Above, we present Julia Fischer, Jennifer Ferrera, and America's favorite couple: Brad and Angela.

'Ugly Betty' Spearheads Change; You Ain't Got No Alibi

uggybetty

Partially due to the noted success of Ugly Betty – perhaps the first show to consistently depict Latinos without introducing one character employed as a mechanic – and partially due to the noted failure of US immigration policy, television executives are finally realizing there is a large Hispanic audience that has yet to be wholly stripped of their time and money.

The eighth annual survey by a coalition formed to push for more minority hiring for on- and off-camera jobs in broadcasting found Latinos made encouraging if "incremental" progress.

Network programs created to foster diversity "are now bearing fruit, and it is not unreasonable to expect that the present numbers will continue to climb and that there will be no backsliding," said Esteban Torres, head of the National Latino Media Council.

ABC leads the pack of jackals in efforts to workforce diversity efforts; Fox is the worst (duh!). Still not being hired for on-camera jobs at networks across the board? People whose ugliness extends beyond braces and loud clothing.

thinamerica

Filling with dread as they watch their once fleshy icon deteriorate before their very eyes, portly Americans are holding on to America Ferrera tighter than the last slice of Meat Lover's:

“I feel like I’m a regular person. I’m a size 10 or 12, which is totally normal. But I do feel that since I wanted to get in better shape, there has been a bit of a backlash.”

Don't worry, guys, you've still got Harvey Fierstein.

More of a noticeably svelter Betty under here.

Emmys! Emmys! Emmys!

emmyslead

Last evening marked the 59th Annual Emmy Awards (which I've heard were unyieldingly boring). Although they remain one of the least merit-based awards in history, the Emmys are one of the sharpest, and that should count for something.

After the jump, the gowns! Oh, the gowns!

Or, the What MTV Tells You to Like Awards

teenchoicelead

The 2007 Teen Choice Awards aired last evening on Fox, and for some odd reason, Larry Birkhead was invited. (Choice Litigious Ex-Lover of a Late Junkie?) As usual, this annual recognition of mediocrity stood as a rock solid reminder of why teenagers aren't allowed to make very important decisions.

Winners and photos after the jump.

sweat

Pit stains suck because even though perspiration is not only natural but also healthy, there's still commercials that literally make monsters out of guys who sweat from their armpits. Advertisers would never dream of making a tampon commercial in which aghast people held their noses in disgust because a woman on her period walks by, but every time your shirt gets a little wet in the pits everyone's horrified and snapping photos. Huh?

This isn't gross, just unfortunate.

Ugly Betty's America Ferrera is W magazine's next cover girl. She'll be highlighted in a piece titled—this is why they get the big bucks!—"Hot Betty."

What I think these photos go to show is that Ugly Betty should probably be changed to something more accurate, like Slightly Chubby but Still Strikingly Beautiful Betty.

So, did you see that Chandra Wilson and Jennifer Hudson and America Ferrera all won SAG awards last night? And, did you see the latter two win Golden Globes, also? And, have you heard that runways everywhere are banning models who are dangerously skinny? Oh, and have you seen that not-too-smart people like Gisele have been caught saying absurd bullshit about anorexia? Then today, Us published this:

Super-skinny nominated actresses like Kyra Sedgwick and Cate Blanchett got beaten by their curvier counterparts in what may signal a "widening" opportunity for aspiring actresses who'd rather work on their lines than their abs.

Is it possible that Hollywood is finally "expanding" their view on beauty, or do they just recognize talent when they see it, regardless of shape or size?

I probably woulda dug this blurb more had they not put all the obvious fat jokes in quotes, but that doesn't mean they aren't on to something.

Have we finally reached the realization that really, really, really skinny does not a pretty girl make? To be sure, I'm not saying thin is gross—I'm kinda slightly built myself. What I'm saying is that not being thin isn't gross, either.

I think that what all the aforementioned big ladies have in common is their striking self-confidence. Heavy or not, as far as I'm concerned, the ugliest thing a girl can do is be self-conscious. Seriously, it makes me want to chug my drink and run out of the bar crying every time I see the awkward girl who's constantly fussing with her lipstick and tugging at her ill-fitting clothes. BLECH!

Fun girls in light make-up who will share fries with you at Happy Hour are the new Gisele.
