Crack open a cold can of awesome and get a load of the Mission Gathering Church's billboard in San Diego, which reads:

Mission Gathering Christian Church is sorry for the narrow-minded, judgmental, deceptive, manipulative actions of those who took away the rights and equality of so many in the name of God.

And Then Some

Amy Poehler's Smart Girls at the Party finally debuted with even more awesomeness and fanfare than we previously expected. The premiere episode features Cameron, a 10-year-old writer who has more potential in her pinky finger than all of Hollywood's starlets combined. Amy handles her like a pro and makes us hope that one day she can teach everyone's daughters how to be as great as her. The best part, however, is at the end, where there's a full-on dance party with Will Arnett and Kristen Wiig. Too many amazing people in one scene, if you ask us.

ELIZABETH TAYLOR STILL PARTYING "Elizabeth Taylor, 76, doesn't get out much these days. But when she does leave home, she goes to the Abbey, West Hollywood's top gay bar. The wheelchair-bound screen legend … favors tequila shots and apple martinis …"

MOTHAFUCKIN' SHARK WEEK IS BACK! "They never set out to be television stars, any more than they sought Hollywood fame in those Steven Spielberg movies. But sharks remain among the most enduring (if unlikeliest) members of TV's A-list. Just consider Shark Week, the summer programming event on Discovery Channel since 1988. Once again, sharks are in the spotlight as Shark Week promotes respect and appreciation for these remarkable animals (with excitement also part of the mix). … This year's new fare includes tonight's 'Surviving Sharks,' in which Les Stroud, host of Discovery's 'Survivorman,' offers tips for water safety and tests popular theories for surviving shark encounters."

Oui! Oui! Oui! Whereas we deep-fried Americans are inclined to lounge behind computers and blog angrily ("I'ma break this fuckin' MacBook, y'all!!!1!) when news about Angelina Jolie and her ubiquitous brood overtakes all the other headlines, those fabulous Frenchman take to the fucking rues and let the world know they're pissed:

Protestors began picketing outside of the Fondation Lenval hospital this week, where the [Jolie-Pitt] twins were born on Saturday.

… Nice residents are upset the mayor has failed to address the case of a local murder victim in lieu of celebrating the American movie stars and their new additions.

Following the birth, Mayor Christian Estrosi showed off the children's birth certificates on the steps of the hospital, describing the birth of Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline as "a pride to Nice and all its citizens."

I walked through Union Square on my way to acting class and got offered loose joints. Drug dealing was a great tradition in this city.

There are other traditions people can get involved with in this city. When I was younger, I used to get a bottle of wine and get drunk under the Staten Island Ferry… so there are things like that you can do.

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: California officials have officially made same-sex marriage official!

At 5:01 PM, clerks began issuing the state’s first same-sex marriage licenses. And, as a proper institution, the ladies went first. Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin, who have been together 55 years, inaugurated the festivities in San Francisco, while Robin Tyler and Diane Olson did it up in Los Angeles county. The latter were the original plaintiffs in the case that led to California Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the ban on gay marriage.

The Good Guys

Paul Newman, who the National Enquirer says has six months left to live after battling lung cancer, might be the last decent guy in Tinseltown. Perhaps understanding that he's on his way out, he's taken his entire stake in salad dressing and cookie company Newman’s Own … and given it to charity. All $120 million worth.

Back in March, Patrick Swayze, that perfect marriage of a dancer's body and a ninja's fists, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and told he had just five weeks to live. But now, approximately three months later, the Road House star is still alive, beating the odds like he did so many commies in the propagandistic classic Red Dawn. Doctors have even cleared him to begin work on a new A&E television series, The Beast. Huzzah!

After the jump, you want it so bad it's like acid in your mouth.

THAT'S OUR SEANY BOY! "At the opening day jury press conference [at Cannes], Sean Penn made a pitch for the first-ever jury prexy’s choice screening of the tsunami doc 'The Third Wave;' called George W. Bush’s politics 'evil,' and said, 'film is about art, and art is about love. The brain has a purpose in connecting with the heart. When someone works without a brain or a heart they kill thousands of people around the world.' Admitting that he was 'not comfortable in a group of people like this,' Penn asked one journo, 'can you get me a drink?'"

Good News

Remember when Patrick Swayze was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer and given just five weeks to live? Well, either his situation has drastically improved or his television cop drama, The Beast, is going to prove to be misnamed and very, very short lived.

A&E Television Networks will spend $650 million on new programming across TV and new media in 2008, up $50 million from a year ago and up 30% compared with 2006.

A&E … said it will launch a second scripted series in early 2009; the top contenders are "The Beast," starring Patrick Swayze, and "Danny Fricke," starring Connie Nielsen. The new series will join the upcoming "The Cleaner," which will debut in the summer. "Cleaner" star Benjamin Bratt was at the upfront, where A&E screened the first two acts of the pilot.

Guess that miracle cure worked!
