LAWSUIT ACCUSES JUDGES OF TAKING SCIENTOLOGY BRIBES "Tom Cruise and the Church of Scientology are the targets of an amended Florida lawsuit that seeks more than a quarter of a billion dollars, FBLA has learned. Ex-Scientologist Peter Letterese, using the RICO statute against the Church of Scientology, originally sought $250,000,000 in a suit filed in July. In the amended suit, filed Oct. 24, he added another $15 million to the total. In court papers obtained by FBLA, Letterese leveled serious charges against Cruise and the Church. He claimed that Cruise and Scientology bribed and improperly influenced a federal judge, a Florida state judge and a federal bankruptcy trustee to tie up his original law suit in bankruptcy court. Letterese's lawyers are really putting a lot on the line, potentially their careers, accusing federal and state judges of taking pay offs,' said Los Angeles private eye Paul Barresi, who had done some work for Cruise in the past."
News broke today that Vanity Fair and the National Security News Service are in a legal battle with the United States Navy over documents they believe prove John McCain's involvement in a car accident that injured or killed another person.
Vanity Fair magazine and the National Security News Service claim to have knowledge "developed from first-hand sources" of a car crash that involved then-Lt. McCain at the main gate of a Virginia naval base in 1964, according to legal filings. The incident has been largely, if not entirely, kept from the public. And in documents suing the Navy to release pertinent information, lawyers for the NS News Service allege that a cover-up may be at play

POOR LITTLE RAFFAELLO GETS FOUR AND A HALF YEARS "Anne Hathaway's ex-boyfriend was sentenced to four and a half years behind bars Thursday for wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy. Raffaello Follieri, 30, only wanted to serve three years, according to papers submitted by his lawyer in a Manhattan federal court earlier this month."
LOHAN'S PAST BACK TO HAUNT HER "A wild ride that led to Lindsay Lohan's arrest has sparked another lawsuit. Court records show that three men who claim they were in a sport utility vehicle that Lohan commandeered in July 2007 sued the 'Mean Girls' star last week. Their allegations include battery, false imprisonment and that the actress was negligent when she allegedly took over one of the men's SUV to chase her recently fired assistant. … The men are seeking more than $25,000."
BRITNEY GETS LUCKY AGAIN "Britney Spears' driving without a license case has been declared a mistrial, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James A. Steele said Tuesday. After five votes and eight hours of deliberation, the jury of eight men and four women failed to agree on whether the singer, 26, was guilty of driving without a valid driver's license, a misdemeanor."

Hoorah! The Connecticut Supreme Court today ruled 4-3 that the state's ban on gay marriage violates its constitution.
The decision came after eight gay citizens filed a lawsuit claiming civil unions were not the same as marriage and qualified as discrimination. And the Court agreed, as Justice Richard Palmer writes in the majority opinion:

Todd Palin's former business partner has filed an emergency motion to have his divorce records sealed. Our best guess is that this means there is at least some truth to the National Enquirer story that Todd's wife, ultra-moral Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, cheated on him with this ex-associate. To quote a friend, "If this were a movie, it would be a bad one."

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Susan M. Speer made her ruling Wednesday afternoon based on a psychiatrist's evaluation of Emily Leatherman.
Of course she's competent—if we didn't have a job, we'd stalk John Cusack, too. His later work has been consistently regrettable, but the man was Lane Meyer!
JAMIE'S STICKING AROUND "Britney Spears will be under the conservatorship of her father Jamie until December 31, it was decided in court Thursday. 'Ms. Spears is reluctantly agreeing to extend the temporary [conservatorship],' L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Reva Goetz said after the hearing."
NO MORE PISSING ON GRAVES "[Britney Spears'] court-appointed attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, told the Associated Press that he will not seek to extend the restraining order in court on Thursday — because Spears has cut all ties with [Sam] Lutfi anyway. 'Britney has made clear to everyone,' Ingham said, 'that she does not want to be further harassed or contacted in any way by Osama 'Sam' Lutfi, now or at anytime in the future.'"
LAWSUIT GOES AFTER SCIENTOLOGY, CRUISE "Tom Cruise is named in a $250 million federal lawsuit that is using the RICO statute against the Church of Scientology. Ex-Scientologist Peter Letterese, a longtime critic of the church, filed suit in Southern District Court in Florida on July 15 alleging, among other things, that members of the church harassed him after he left. … Letterese calls the church a 'crime syndicate' and wants it broken up under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization law, just as the feds have broken up Mafia families. He singles out Cruise, who's made no secret of his religion, saying that Scientology head David Miscavage is 'aided and abetted by the actions of Tom Cruise, his right-hand man for foreign and domestic promotion, as well as for foreign and domestic lobbying. He has assisted the syndicate in acquiring funds and [made] his own donations of money believed to be in the multiple tens of millions of dollars.'"
Our favorite little guy, Verne Troyer, received great news this weekend as a judge shot down the distribution of that disturbing sex tape Mini Me made with his famewhore ex-girlfriend. Snippets of the 50-minute tape were leaked to TMZ last month — but Verne must approve of the selling or distributing of the tape, and he vowed he will do no such thing.
Good move, Verne. Seriously, we kind of love him, but no one wants to see his reptilian tongue darting in and out of that loser's mouth.

Uh oh! Just one day after we were called "assy" for daring to suggest that Britney Spears should focus her energy on things other than making a new pop album, the perennially hysterical singer has lost a long-standing custody dispute with her ex-husband, self-styled pimp Kevin Federline (of the Fresno Federlines). Under the ruling, Federline will retain sole legal and physical custody of the couple's two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James. Spears will continue to be allowed twice a week visitation and once a week monitored overnights.
Sad, but don't feel too bad for Britney, she can use the emotions this decision will inevitably yield to liven up her new record. We can see the hits now: "My Kids Aren't Coming Home Tonight (So Stay a While Longer)" and "I Just Wanna Dance and Forget About Motherfuckin' Family Court. Shit! Goddammit!"
