There Is No Xenu

Hmm … How do we say this? Rupert, the adorable deer with whom we forced you all to fall in love (nine posts below), has died. The precious baby animal, measuring six inches tall and weighing only a pound and a half, was delivered via C-section after his mother was hit by a car. He wasn't even a week old.

Life isn't fair.

Paul Newman, one of the few Hollywood players who was loved and respected by everyone, died of cancer Friday at his Connecticut home. He was 83.

Robert Forrester, vice chairman of Newman's Own Foundation, summed Paul's life up most eloquently:

Paul took advantage of what life offered him, and while personally reluctant to acknowledge that he was doing anything special, he forever changed the lives of many with his generosity, humor, and humanness. His legacy lives on in the charities he supported … for which he cared so much.

He will be truly missed.

Four Killed, Two Injured

Travis Barker and DJ AM survived a Learjet crash late Friday night that killed the other four people on board the plane. The two men were admitted to burn units and listed in critical condition.

Travis and DJ AM had performed at a concert Friday with Gavin DeGraw and former Jane's Addiction singer Perry Farrell, but Gavin and Perry were not on the plane. Of the four who died, two were pilots, one was a security guard and one was Travis' 26-year-old assistant, who was recently married and had a baby.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was taking off when air traffic controllers reported seeing sparks; the plane then went off the runway and crashed on a nearby road, where it burst into flames. Travis was burned from the waist down; DJ AM's face suffered severe burns. Both men are expected to survive.

Our thoughts are with the families of the deceased.

WE WOULDN'T GO THAT FAR… "Contrary to Internet reports, two of Paris Hilton's dogs were not eaten by a coyote. They're not only alive, but living better than many humans."

Paris Hilton may sometimes be a little ditzy when it comes to her pet-collecting tendencies (haha remember that monkey?) but at least she never managed to kill any of them. Sure there was that time the heiress left her cat at the vets for so long they had to bring it back to her, but when you own a San Diego Zoo's worth of lemurs and kinkajous, it's sort of hard to keep track of your 17 unusually small dogs and other "normal" animals.

Whoops…did we say 17? Make that 15.

The End Is Nigh

Good news, everyone: Michael Lohan ran to E! News to announce that he and the rest of his obnoxious family have called a truce just in time for his father's burial. Mike went on to confirm that all of his children will be in attendance, despite Lindsay's publicized absence at the funeral earlier this week.

But here's where things get weird: Michael actually goes on to say nice things about Dina!

'And I can't believe how great Dina has been,' he said of his ex-wife. 'She has been wonderful. She has been the woman I married. She has been great.'

Time to go stock up on bottled water and flashlights.

Michael, Care To Comment?

Poor Michael Lohan. In just one short week, the former prison inmate publicly fought with his daughter and ex-wife and suffered the loss of his father. But things grew worse over the weekend when Lindsay failed to show up for her grandfather's wake in Long Island, choosing instead to spend her time shopping in Manhattan with girlfriend Samantha Ronson. This forced Mike to discuss Lindsay's absence with the always sympathetic X17 photo agency, which we assume will be followed up with another preposterous exclusive with OK! magazine.

We can't really fault Linds for failing to show up to the wake, because her grandfather's death was never about the passing of a family member — it was an opportunity for Michael to stay in the news. Lindsay's presence at the funeral would have turned the entire event into a circus, which Grandpa Lohan surely didn't deserve.

Family Values

Sometimes we are reminded that celebrities (we use this term loosely) are people, too, and are often fighting the same internal battles as the rest of us — and then Michael Lohan comes along and snaps us out of it. See, Mike's father died last night amid a family feud that's been playing out in the media over the last few days. You'd think the passing of a parent might put life into perspective, but for Michael it just sent him over the edge in his quest to burn ex-wife Dina at the cross. Naturally, he issued a statement to OK! within hours of his father's death:

My father just, literally, died in my arms. I notified all my kids and my lawyer notified Dina's attorney. Let's see if she has the decency and respect to bring my kids to the wake and funeral. THIS will show her true colors! Thus, not even a call. But that's par for the course with Dina! She didn't even send a card or visit when he was sick.

Really, there are no words.

A Big Gift

If you ever wondered how Matthew McConaughey got to be so crazy, may we present Exhibition No. 1: His mother, Kay. The lovely Kay has many great stories to share — did you hear the one about her husband's death?

On Monday mornings, he and I often said goodbye by making love. But one day, all of a sudden, it just happened. I knew that something was wrong, because I didn’t hear anything from him. Just nothing. But it was just the best way to go! [He was taken from the house naked because] I was just so proud to show off my big old Jim McConaughey — and his gift.

That's one of those stories we would never want to hear our mother tell. TMI, Kay. TMI.

This season of 'Lost' has really jumped the shark

Ed Robertson is the frontman of Barenaked Ladies, which means he is at least partly responsible for that "One Week" song that ruined the entire year of 1998. That doesn't explain why he seems to be one of God's chosen children; Robertson's private plane crashed in Canada yesterday afternoon and all four passengers managed to walk off unharmed.

'There’s not a scratch on any of them,' said the source. Another source who asked to remain anonymous said it was obvious something was very wrong today.

Fail

Too much time has passed since Heidi Montag's latest assault on music, and luckily for us the "singer" decided to release a new single just in time for tonight's season premiere of The Hills. The new song is called "Overdosin" and makes us want to follow the title's lead. Between this and that other travesty, "One More Drink," we're a little confused as to what Heidi is trying to tell us. We can only hope it involves some sort of death — and yes, we are aware that it's unfortunate how this famewhore has driven us to wishing that upon a person.
