'Who Cares?'

Simon Cowell spoke to Ellen today about the upcoming American Idol finale (he predicts David Cook will win), his harshness and, of course, FantasiaGate. The former Idol's performance on last week's results show "just sort of exploded," according to Cowell, whose commentary always perfectly sums up everything we were feeling as well.

Best. Expression. Ever.

simonface.jpg

In all seven seasons of American Idol, never have I seen this expression on Simon Cowell's face. The sheer horror and confusion were warranted: The performance he had just witnessed was, in a word, disturbing — and courtesy of former Idol winner Fantasia Barrino. Perhaps you would expect something manic from William Hung or Sanjaya, but this was from the "talented" individual who took home season three's crown. I'm unsure as to why they chose this night to unleash Fantasia, but it has to be encouraging to the two Davids (yes, Syesha finally went home) — come next week, all this will be theirs for the taking. I wouldn't be surprised if they both haven't already dropped out at this point.

To restore your faith in the voting public, click through and view what will surely go down in the record books as one of the greatest performances in Idol history.

For Having The Balls To Show Up Without An Invite

Whether you choose to accept it or not, American Idol has become a major presence in the music industry, with many contestants cranking out hit records, starring on Broadway, and … making fists at cameras. Last night's Grammy Awards attracted some of the best of the Idols, including Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood and Fantasia Barrino. Ace Young showed up as well for no apparent reason (other than to remind us he's still alive).

BABIES HAVING BABIES "Does Fantasia Barrino have a bun in the oven? Yes, say several reliable bloggers including celebrity writer Jonathan Jackson, who credits Atlanta rapper Young Dro with being the father." You'll remember that this mother to be learned to read only two years ago. Also: "reliable bloggers"? Ha!

Do Right Woman

Jennifer Hudson, seen here maybe getting robbed, is on a short list of actresses Aretha Franklin would like to play her in her biopic.

The "queen of soul" has said that though the process is ongoing, she has watched Hudson's breakout role in Dreamgirls "a couple of times lately," adding that Fantasia Barrino and Halle Berry are also being considered for the part.

Of course, if the film follows Franklin into present day, she'll need to play her, uh, incomparable self.

The wildly talented and hyper-enthusiastic Fantasia Barrino—the winner of American Idol in 2004—recently spoke with People magazine about her "Rules for Idol Wannabes."

"Have fun. Stay prayed up. And give it your all," she tells PEOPLE. "Go out and just be yourself. Act like it's your last time. Sing it." Fantasia should know. She's been getting raves opening for Oscar winner Jamie Foxx on his tour. During her recent stop at New York City's Madison Square Garden, the The New York Times gushed she had a "fierce set of screaming R&B" and the New York Post gushed about her "passionate cover of Prince's 'Purple Rain.'"

While it may be important to "stay prayed up," I'd like to go ahead and remind hopeful Idol contestants that they should probably go ahead and learn to read before starting to pray up. OK, guys? Reading and writing should be higher priorities than staying prayed up.
