Plaxico Burress and the case of the Applebees gun

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot: Plaxico Burress of the New York Giants had just one of those days (nights?) post-Thanksgiving, when he walked into the Latin Quarter club and promptly shot himself in the leg — by accident, one assumes, unless he was trying to get out of next season's training or had some sort of beef with his hamstring.

And while a football player packing heat is a story in and of itself, it's what Burress did after the self-inflicted shooting that's truly amazing and shows you just how far celebrity status will take you in this city.

The 63rd Degree

The seven-page questionnaire being sent to those seeking high-ranking positions in the Obama administration is being called "considerably more detailed than we had to fill out" by a former Clinton aide and "invasive" by other Washington insiders.

Among the 63 questions – some of which have multiple parts – are queries about gun ownership (of you and your family), Internet aliases, embarrassing experiences at work and embarrassing family members (above).

Thinking of applying? Keep this in mind: your drunk, gun-owning cousin who can't get his shit together is going to be loyal to you far longer than the US government.

FROM HIS COLD, DEAD, LITTLE HANDS Let's hope Obama does something about the guns: "Authorities are investigating whether criminal charges should be filed in the death of an 8-year-old boy who fatally shot himself with an Uzi at a gun show in western Massachusetts, a prosecutor said Tuesday. Christopher Bizilj (Bah-SEAL) of Ashford, Conn., lost control of the 9mm micro submachine gun and shot himself in the head at the Machine Gun Shoot and Firearms Expo at the Westfield Sportsman's Club … Hampden County District Attorney William Bennett said Tuesday he is investigating whether it was a violation of the state's firearms statute … to allow the boy to fire the machine gun … 'At this point in the investigation I have found no lawful authority which allows an 8-year-old to possess or fire a machine gun,' Bennett said in a statement."

MAN SHOOTS TEEN FOR VANDALIZING MCCAIN SIGN "Angered that two neighborhood teenagers knocked over a John McCain sign on his lawn, an Ohio man allegedly grabbed a rifle and fired three times at the duo as they sought to drive away from his Warren Township home. Kenneth Rowles, 50, was charged with felonious assault in connection with the Saturday afternoon incident, which resulted in one boy suffering a minor bullet wound."

Rapper Lil Wayne refused to perform in Boston last evening after he "failed to make it through security" at the TD Banknorth Garden. One must assume this means Wayne was carrying guns and/or drugs and refused to relinquish them to enter the venue.

Goddamn are we ever having a hard time deciding whether this guy is a junkie idiot or one of the last vanguards of authentic rock and roll rebellion.

Get Out Of Town

Lil Wayne's assistant, Terry Bougeouis, probably found himself between a rock and a hard place yesterday during his boss's gun-possession case in New York. Unfortunately for him, he was forced to tell the truth.

He Doesn't Need Your Effing Show

Lil' Wayne, who gave one of the more memorable VMA performances this weekend thanks to his inability to keep his pants on, seems to be quite the diva: The troubled rapper, who has a history of run-ins with the law that doesn't quite rival that of DMX, reportedly refused to take the stage at Friday night's "Fashion Rocks" event because he didn't want his bag checked by security. So he bailed, which then led to him changing his mind and being a pain in the ass for the rest of the night.

Click through for the full entertaining story, as told by a senior production staffer.

COP PULLS GUN ON DIDDY ET AL "A cop pulled a gun on rap mogul Sean (Diddy) Combs during a routine traffic stop in Los Angeles, authorities said Sunday. A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy briefly brandished his weapon at Combs on the Sunset Strip after cops pulled over a car driven by a member of his entourage. 'A deputy pulled his firearm, fearing for his safety,' said a sheriff's department spokesman. 'The situation was deflated as quickly as it began.' Combs spokeswoman Keesha Johnson said the cop did not pull the gun directly on the rapper, and stressed that the officers were 'really respectful.'"

Plenty of celebrities have their "thing" when it comes to appearing on (on in) magazines. Marc Jacobs' thing, for instance, is getting photographed without many clothes on. Blake Lively's thing is appearing with her hair in disarray. Rapper The Game's thing? Posing like he's going to kill himself.

JERRY LEWIS

HEY, LADY! I GOT A FRICKIN' GUN! "Police say they have confiscated a gun belonging to Jerry Lewis that was found in the 82-year-old entertainer's carryon bag as he prepared to fly to Detroit from Las Vegas. Las Vegas policeman Bill Cassell said Tuesday that the actor was cited Friday for carrying an unloaded concealed weapon at the Las Vegas airport. Lewis' manager, Claudia Marghilano, says the handgun is a hollowed-out prop gun that Lewis sometimes twirls during his show."

WHAT A JOKE "Why were Hills stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt at a firing range in L.A. Tuesday? 'All the super soaker ranges were closed,' Pratt joked to Usmagazine.com. 'Seriously, we're learning in honor of Heidi's step-brother. … He loved guns and always wanted Heidi to become a great marksmen. We're fulfilling his dream.'"

The World Is a Ghetto

spenceheidgunsnew

The hills are alive with the sound of M16 bursts! Yes, those are real guns Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are caressing like awed monkeys, and, apparently, there's a lot more where those came from: "The Hills couple has been concerned about their protection and … recently spent $10,000 on weapons at the Martin B. Retting store in Culver City, Calif." As if these two sad, strange people weren't frightening enough!
