Sorry we're so late with this, the most incredible thing currently happening in global youth culture, but here we go: hundreds and hundreds of young people are taking to the streets of cities throughout Mexico to hunt down and assault "emo kids," those dark, flat-ironed saddies who love Elliot Smith more than themselves. Dios mio! According to reports, the roving gangs are composed of punks, Slayer-loving Hessians and assholes, and, thanks to the Internet, they're more coordinated and propagandistic than American lynch mobs ever were:
… several postings on Mexican social-networking sites, primarily organising spots for these “emo hunts,” have been dug up and translated. One states: “I HATE EMOS!!! They are not even people, they are so stupid, they cry over meaningless things… My school is infested with them, I want to kill them all!”
Another says: “We’ve never seen all the urban tribes unite against one single tribe before… Emos, their way of thinking is for crap, if you are so depressed please do us all a favour and kill yourselves!”
After the jump, video footage of the violence as well as a now infamous clip of Mexican TV personality Kristoff calling emo "fucking bullshit," an incident many believe incited these attacks. Any translation via comment would be appreciated.

Ditch the eyeliner, pronto! That's the word from Cosmopolitan's Style & Beauty, which ranks out pop stars for painting their peepers the way girls do. "The only pencil a man should wield is the writing kind," the magazine scolds. It then razzes Wentz (the Fall Out Boy bassist), telling him, "Taking that eye makeup off before bed is gonna be a bitch."
I'm inclined to agree, though I'm uncomfortable with the homophobic undertones of the sentiment. I suppose I'm also uncomfortable with the feeling I get when siding with Cosmopolitan magazine. Maybe they do have the key to "Instant Sexiness."
