Hey, we wouldn't blame her. And (the former?!??!) Mrs. Edwards has been attending a lot of events on her own recently, including the New Yorker Festival.
And now Elizabeth has been spotted out on the town without her wedding ring. Well, according to Page Six (but they got it from the Washington Post!).

Normally we wouldn't trust this story, courtesy of the National Enquirer, but we would have never believed that Britney Spears would shave her head and hold her child hostage in a bathroom, so it's safe to say that the Spears family isn't exactly predictable. And then there's the source, who was right that one time about John Edwards, so we can't fully doubt the credibility of this rumor. Instead, we'll just pray it's not true.
Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant again, y'all! Only three months after giving birth to her first child, the teenage mother is already knocked up for a second time.
'Jamie Lynn is about eight weeks pregnant, and she and her mom Lynne are hysterical. … Jamie Lynn believed she couldn’t get pregnant while she was breast-feeding. She’d expected to have her period by early September.' A home pregnancy test came back positive and Jamie Lynn cried her eyes out, said the source.
OK, first off, why is Lynne furious? This is just another child to add to her pot of boiling cash cows. You know she's already got OK! on the phone for yet another million dollar exclusive. Secondly, friends are supposedly urging JL to abort this baby so she can focus on the first. It's a shame there's no way to avoid getting pregnant in the first place … perhaps some sort of protection? Oh right, they make that. And JL obviously doesn't use it.

There's the political cesspool that is Washington, D.C., and then 100 miles away is the real melting pot of intelligent minds in The Middle of Nowhere, Virginia. Lovely reader Ruby Jackson snapped these shots in the area and passed them along to us as a morning boost. Who are these people and why are they allowed to breed?
Says Ruby:
I was recently in semi-rural Virginia, about 100 miles outside DC near Luray, and saw this display in front of a farm. Not sure what the significance of the rocks are, but it was disturbing, as well as typical sentiment for that area. Enjoy!
DID THE WITCHES MAKE PALIN CHEAT ON HER HUSBAND? Oh no! It looks like Kenyan sorcerer Thomas Muthee's big talk about protecting Sarah Palin from evil temptation might be a big sham: "The National Enquirer [which broke news of John Edwards' affair well before other news outlets] claims three sources - including one that signed a sworn affidavit - say Republican presidential nominee Sarah Palin cheated on her husband, Todd Palin, with his former business partner, Brad Hanson."

Seeing what the National Enquirer did with John Edwards — endless press (eventually) and a slight, but noticeable, newsstand bump — Us Weekly is definitely not getting left behind with, or letting the Enquirer own, the latest political scandal. Or, you know, the scandal that might not really be a scandal, just a little matter of unwed teen pregnancy.
Enter Sarah Palin.

This Us Weekly-esque picture of Rielle Hunter and her baby Francis, who may or may not be John Edwards' daughter, landed on the cover of the National Enquirer thanks to one of Rielle's sisters. Nice. Of the two potential snitches, one hasn't spoken to Rielle in 15 years and has already been previously identified as an Enquirer source. Gee, we wonder which one would sell a picture to the tabloid in exchange for a pocketful of cash?
We can't wait until this whole scandal blows over and it becomes a Lifetime movie.

The suddenly reliable (but only when John Edwards is involved) National Enquirer is still on the hunt for more proof that the tabloid was correct in its reporting, although nobody is really arguing otherwise. This time around the mag reveals even more details about John and his alleged mistress, Rielle Hunter — the latter of whom was flown on a $50,000 private jet to the Virgin Islands the day before Edwards' Nightline interview. This vacation was, of course, paid for by John's pals.
And as for the poor baby involved in all of this nonsense, Rielle has refused to allow a paternity test to determine the father because she believes Edwards will marry her after his cancer-ridden wife dies. Wow, that's romantic. Also, it sounds like John might not be the baby's daddy after all. But that doesn't mean he's not a slimeball.

Because average Americans can't be trusted to form their own opinions, Us Weekly trotted out a polygraph expert to explain how John Edwards may not have been completely honest during last week's Nightline interview regarding his affair with Rielle Hunter. Gee, you think?
Jack Trimarco, a former FBI Unit Chief, reported that due to John's "attempts to dodge questions" and "sketchy body language," he has come to the conclusion that Edwards is a liar. Other great revelations include a phenomenon knows as a "mixed signal," which Jack says occurs when Edwards stated he would participate in a paternity test while simultaneously nodding his head "no." This is so enlightening. Also suspect is the fact that Edwards frequently repeated questions back to the interviewer before giving an answer: "When a person is getting ready to tell a lie, they repeat the question back because they need time to formulate an innocent response."
Wow, that was extremely educational. Thanks, Us!

Know what's been missing from all the postmortems about the mainstream media not covering the John Edwards scandal? Some input from religious types! Other than Bill O'Reilly!
Generally, the devout frown on the cheating-on-your-wife thing, and especially the cheating-on-your-ill-wife thing. And the Catholics, who spend much of their time warning followers about spending eternity in hell, are quick to point out sins. Including those made by the media at large. Hope you've got your holy water in a bottle with a squirt spout top!

John Edwards had a busy weekend. After admitting he cheated on his cancer-ridden wife, the former presidential candidate offered to take a paternity test to prove he did not father mistress Rielle Hunter's five-month-old daughter. Except — surprise! — Rielle announced that she would not participate in the test, therefore leaving this whole thing a mystery. Although it's not so much a mystery when it's obvious Edwards has lots more to hide.

John Edwards released a statement after admitting to cheating on his cancer-ridden wife back in 2006. You can read the entire transcript here, but most of it says what you'd expect: It was only for a short time and he's not the father of any baby — and he's willing to take the tests to prove it. He goes on:
It is inadequate to say to the people who believed in me that I am sorry, as it is inadequate to say to the people who love me that I am sorry. In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic. If you want to beat me up feel free. You cannot beat me up more than I have already beaten up myself. I have been stripped bare and will now work with everything I have to help my family and others who need my help.
It's a good thing he really had no chance against Barack or Hillary, or else the Democratic party would really be in trouble.
This is a reminder that when we wrote about John Edwards' (formerly) alleged affair last week, citing the National Enquirer as a source, common commenter response was as follows:
lols the enquirer couldn’t get this to stick last fall and they can’t get it to stick now. andrew young has already said he’s the father of reille’s baby. lols
and
Here’s another shocker from the National Enquirer. It’s a good thing they reported on this and it came to light in such a big way in 2005.

We'll say it again: one should note that the Enquirer isn’t always wrong.
WOW. "In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, [John] Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 42-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her. Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter's baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test."

Both of New York’s finest newspapers, the Daily News and the Post, hit today with items regarding a former senator named John Edwards and a racy love child scandal the mainstream media doesn’t want you to know anything about. Except the News and the Post, um, are the MSM, so this gets confusing! They’re both basically saying the same thing — which is to say they’re reiterating what the Raleigh News & Observer already told you: the Dems want this matter cleared up before the convention, yo. But it’s a moment of significance, because two newspapers the city actually reads are saying this!

After weeks (months, actually) of reporting on the John Edwards mistress scandal, the National Enquirer has finally printed the “spy photo” of the former senator holding his alleged love child Frances Quinn Hunter, daughter of Rielle Hunter.
This is, of course, damning proof that the Edwards scandal is real! Or at least it should be.

According to the National Enquirer, a wealthy friend of former veep candidate John Edwards has been paying Edwards' mistress $15,000 a month to keep her quiet about the couple's relationship and subsequent lovechild. No "reliable" news source has picked up the story yet, but one should note that the Enquirer isn't always wrong.
Edwards himself has continuously refused to comment on the alleged mistress and child, most recently choosing instead to cower in a bathroom when Enquirer reporters followed him to a hotel at which he was supposedly meeting his lover (not joking).
Tedious mantis woman Ann Coulter has done it again! She's called John Edwards "faggy" in a new interview and once again reminded us that we live in an America so shitty that its rich can consistently use hateful slurs in public and not be stripped of their privilege to blab nonsense on TV.

John Edwards, the former senator from North Carolina who bowed out of the presidential race in January, is expected to endorse Senator Barack Obama at a rally being held [in Grand Rapids, Michigan] tonight.
