Delusional

It's no wonder Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears are such messes — with matriarch Lynne steering the girls' upbringing, they didn't have a chance. Now that Lynne's published a tell-all book to bring in the cash, she wants to turn it into a movie. And, naturally, she has the cast already selected:

Lynne Spears believes Through The Storm — which details Britney's troubles with drink, drugs and teenage sex — would be a box office smash.

Scary Movie star Anna Faris has apparently been lined up to play Britney and Lynne has Julia Roberts in mind to play the part of her.

Ba! Hahaha! Julia Roberts? To play Lynne Spears? That's the most glorious, delusional thing we've heard all day.

Nobody's Perfect

morganfreemancountry

Oh no! Julia Roberts couldn't do it; nor could Amanda Peet or Denzel Washington. And it looks like Katie Holmes' chance to do it was over before it even began. But we had such high hopes for Morgan Freeman! He was supposed to be The One, the major movie star that would take Broadway by storm with a performance hailed by critics and ticket buyers alike. Alas, it was not to be:

… if Mr. Freeman [in The Country Girl] was still unsure of his lines, it was undetectable in the performance I saw, which exuded a low-key confidence and charm. (This is not, I hasten to point out, what the part requires at all times.) And if you compare this version’s script with Odets’s published text, the deletions and discrepancies don’t change the sense of things, though the word substitutions are often bizarrely capricious. I would happily have put up with flubbed lines if real runaway feelings accompanied them.

In theater as in film Mr. Freeman is a quietly commanding presence. When Frank auditions for Bernie, the producer (Chip Zien) and the playwright (Remy Auberjonois) in the opening scene and begins improvising, you get a flash of the wild-card artistry that makes Bernie prize him. Otherwise he seems natural, affable, occasionally irritable, but not like a man wrestling with demons.

Captains of Industry

harveylg

A nosy Village Voice scribe stumbled across a large bundle of Miramax head Harvey Weinstein's garbage whilst in Tribeca the other night, and then he wrote about it for his paper. Besides making it abundantly clear that few scripts pass muster with the notoriously prickly and prickish Weinstein, the refuse also revealed that the mogul is quite a difficult man to get on the phone. After the jump, Harv's "need to call" list.

The Next Julia Roberts

katejim.jpg

While promoting her new film 21 Wednesday night in NYC, Kate Bosworth admitted she got herself so drunk during the acting process she doesn't remember shooting a love scene with co-star Jim Sturgess: "We were both so drunk. Jim and I became such good friends, we decided to have a couple of drinks, loosen up and go for it."

Sturgess agreed, adding that the two had so much Grey Goose he couldn't stand at one point during filming. Lightweights.

While we're sure the director and crew appreciated their professionalism, it's not really Kate's fault: She could have a sip of liquor and we're sure it would make her tiny little body suffer from alcohol poisoning.

Wasting Away Again in Margaritaville

suburbia

Hi! I'm currently at a tennis club in Tucson, Arizona. Court moms are being catty and one woman just asked me where to find the best sushi in town. (Arizona is landlocked, lady! Nowhere!) Fun fact: Everywhere I look I see athletic shoes with metallic details.

Why am I telling you this? Slow day, for one, but also because I just witnessed a few septuagenarians have a ten minute discussion about the benefits of casting Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks opposite one another in Charlie Wilson's War. One kindly woman told two others she left the theater saying, "YES!"

The conversation terrified me on different levels, but mainly because I'm not certain that when I write I don't sound like these people; these chirping twits prattling on about fucking movie stars. Besides blood and bones and a heart, is there a commonality that exists between me and those three women fawning over Julia's hair?

Julia Roberts and husband Danny Moder welcomed son Henry Daniel Moder to the world today. Chances are the infant will be as pale as the moon and have a mop of red hair, but do not, under any circumstances, call him a "ginger kid." Apparently many redheads are more sensitive to jokes about their hair than they are the sun.

Let's get serious, here: These guys aren't interested in making this Ocean series good, right? They're just going, "Do you wanna wear nice suits in Italy again this year? Cool. Me too. I'll book the tickets."

If there was any heart left in it, how does one explain that ridiculous deus ex machina stunt in Ocean's 12 when they have Julia Roberts' character, Tess, run distraction because she looks so similar to—spoiler alert!—Julia Roberts! That bit should go down in history as one of the laziest solutions in the history of film.

Here's some shots from the upcoming Ocean's 13. It looks like we can expect a Pacino cameo, well-tailored trousers, two buttons undone on shirts and a whole lot of what basically amounts to Brad Pitt and George Clooney's family vacation slideshow.

It's pretty clear that Julia Roberts' brood, Phinneus and Hazel, are the li'l Irish babes we all knew who were accustomed to finding the shady spots on the playground. Doesn't mean they're not cute, though.
