GOOD LUCK WITH THAT "Weary of the scrums of photographers chasing celebs at the airport, on the beach and through the streets, some Los Angeles-area leaders are contemplating tougher regulations against the people who make their living by catching celebrities off-guard."

Still Looking Old

lilosephora.jpg

It seems like only yesterday the Internet was freaking out in response to pictures of Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson blowing kisses to each other in LA. But while we weren't looking, LiLo and that wretched mother of hers turned up in NYC to celebrate Sephora's 10th anniversary. Because that's a good reason to travel across the country. Anyway, the Lohan ladies also dragged along Lindsay's poor brother Michael, who quite obviously hates his life.

CNN stick figure Larry King will have his own street named after him in Los Angeles. Where Sunset and Cahuenga boulevards meet, the name "Larry King Square" will reign supreme.

Congratulations, Larry, this is all yours:

America, America This Is You

Duck, patriots!

Just a precaution, as many 'mericans were out in herds this weekend to celebrate their nation's glorious, important and hard-earned autonomy the best way they know how: with violence! Drunken, brutal violence!

TMZ has not one but two stories up today about a couple different acts of aggression revelers in the western part of the country faced this holiday weekend. In one instance, new mother Nicole Richie had to be escorted off the Hard Rock Hotel premises in Las Vegas after getting into an altercation with someone in the valet line. And in Los Angeles, two men were shot multiple times in front of a Hollywood club. USA! USA! USA!

After the jump, TMZ's unflinching and unnecessary image of the back of a shooting victim. (Don't worry, it's not bloody and the guy's alive.)

OH (ERNEST)NO "Wilmer Valderrama is back at Fox in a new comedy. Fox has ordered a pilot for "The Emancipation of Ernesto," a one-hour project starring Valderrama as guileless innocent embarking on an epic quest to find his father amid a Los Angeles landscape polluted with excess. The story is said to be in the spirit of the classic Steve Martin comedy 'The Jerk.'"

Fight the Power

greatdepression

New York's new tax breaks for film and television productions already have camera crews sprouting like Pinkberrys all over Manhattan, meaning this summer could be perfect for heckling actors until they punch us and we call our lawyer. (We're back, baby!)

Of course, as is always the case, one man's fortune is another man's shit luck. Much as we despise Hollywood types, it's terrible that they're finding it harder and harder to get work.

That's why we're publishing the full-page ad the recently fired production crew of Ugly Betty took out in tomorrow's Variety. We love New York and want her citizens to live well, but we're always in for some righteous Schwarzenegger bashing.

NY BEATS LA YET AGAIN "ABC's 'Ugly Betty' is about to get a make-over that has nothing to do with Betty's bushy eyebrows or shiny braces. The production is planning to pack its designer bags and leave Los Angeles for the Big Apple, where the fictional Mode magazine where Betty works as an assistant to an emotionally needy editor is supposed to be based. Cast and crew members learned of the move at a meeting Monday … About two-thirds of the show's 150 crew members … are expected to lose their jobs. … Two weeks ago, New York's governor signed into law a bill that tripled the amount of the state's film tax credit. Feature films, television series, pilots, and TV movies and miniseries that complete at least 75% of their stage work at a qualified production facility are eligible for a 35% refundable tax credit."

Poor Bruce

diddystar.jpg

Diddy got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this weekend. Finally. To celebrate his total LA domination, he threw himself a "From Harlem to Hollywood!" party, where he proceeded to spew out the best Diddy quote of all time: "I think that it's important for me to mature and evolve as an artist. I'm trying to get my Black Bruce Willis on."

Just a reminder: This guy will be remembered forever thanks to his new star.

Hollywood's Not America

hollywoodsign

LA residents are up in arms over a real estate deal that may ruin the look of the world-famous Hollywood hills sign. An investment group that owns the land above and to the left of the sign put the area up for sale, causing locals to fear the picture-perfect landscape will be ruined by mansions. Unless, of course, they are the ones who will live in those mansions.

Haters

rupertgrintonlindsaylohan

Rupert Grint, the awkward ginger famous for his portrayal of Harry Potter's right-hand man Ron Weasley, be talking shiiiiiiiiit:

… Grint has changed his mind about moving to Los Angeles — because he can’t face bumping into the likes of Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.“I met Lindsay last summer and she talked about herself a lot.

“She said she was going to win an Oscar before she turns 25. I just kept thinking, ‘But you can’t act’.”

Rupert is yet to cross paths with Paris — and he hopes it stays that way. “I haven’t met Paris and don’t want to either,” he said. “She and Lindsay are the type of girls you need to stay away from.”

Oh, for the days when so many Americans didn't make it pathetically easy for Brits to be smug.

Bad Ideas

heathermillsoctober

Having just lost one of its most famous irritating blonds, Cameron Diaz, to Manhattan, perhaps Los Angeles believed its reputation as a mecca of blind fools was flagging. It would have been wrong, because here comes another miserable blond to fill Diaz's Manolos:

Heather Mills is keen to start a new life in Los Angeles - despite overwhelming evidence that America is not keen on her. Heather, speaking after appearing as a judge at the Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas, said: "In England, people don't like me. "But I'm going to move to America, Los Angeles hopefully. I love England but everything that has happened makes me realise I'll be better off in the States." Bizarrely, her comments came after she was booed and heckled by the Vegas crowd.

LA Catches A Lucky Break

wmagcamerondiaz

From W magazine's Cameron Diaz cover story:

I’m done with L.A. Those guys [the paparazzi], you can’t get away from them. You have no options because everybody’s in a car. Here, I can walk down the street like everybody else. Not everybody is there to be rich and famous or attach themselves to rich and famous people. People want nothing from you. They just want to say, like, ‘Hey, how’s it going, Cameron?’ I like that interaction. I like to be in a place where I can be open to people and not worry about the consequences.

These women thought they were half-naked and rubbing down a fancy car for a commercial advertising Sunset Tan, E!'s most forsaken reality show about a bunch of crazy people in LA. Actually, this is a shoot for New York City's newest tourism campaign, tagline: "Had enough of this shit?"

BOYS WILL BE BOYS "A violent fight broke out at a Hollywood hotspot last night — one guy was stabbed in the stomach and he's in critical condition. It all went down at the nightclub Mood. Cops tell us the victim was stabbed inside the club and then made his way outside and collapsed in front of Geisha House. … We're told the fight started when two men fought over a girl, and ended with one stabbing the other. Eight people have been taken in to the cop shop for questioning."

Dens of Iniquity

bukdrink2

Wanna see a shrine to depression but without any of the white guilt that ruins the Indian reservations? You're in luck, paleface!

The Los Angeles City Council is voting next week on whether or not the crumbling stucco bungalow where Charles Bukowski once lived should be preserved as a landmark. Though currently boarded up, proponents of making a monument out of the 90-year-old property where Chuck drank countless pints of swill and wrote his first novel want it to become part of a walking tour of LA.

If the motion passes, people from around the world will be able to see what sort of environment contributes to a man's persistent drunkenness and relentless pursuit to hurt women.
