Candy Ring Pops Included

mariah_carey240.jpg

Mariah Carey has fallen a bit out of the spotlight lately now that her marriage to Nick Cannon has become old news. So, naturally, she's just now sharing the details on how Nick proposed to her — twice — in hopes of milking this story for all it's worth. But, really, we could have imagined these shenanigans already (it is Mariah, after all) so it's nothing groundbreaking:

'He sort of kidnapped me and took me on a helicopter ride. Then he re-proposed.' Cannon's first proposal had taken place on Carey's roof in Manhattan a couple of evenings prior and involved the hiding of a 17-carat diamond ring inside a candy ring pop.

Only the best for "eternally 12-years-old" Mariah.

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: California officials have officially made same-sex marriage official!

At 5:01 PM, clerks began issuing the state’s first same-sex marriage licenses. And, as a proper institution, the ladies went first. Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin, who have been together 55 years, inaugurated the festivities in San Francisco, while Robin Tyler and Diane Olson did it up in Los Angeles county. The latter were the original plaintiffs in the case that led to California Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the ban on gay marriage.

Victories

Gay Star Trek star George Takei is very close to boldly going where few men have gone before: into a loving marriage with another man.

With the California Supreme Court's legalization of gay marriage taking effect yesterday, Takei and his partner, Brad Altman, talked with The Early Show about being in the final stages of wedding planning, a process Takei calls "delicious anguish." Click through for the adorable video of the lovebirds.

Tila Tequila, the STD-ridden reality show loser who does the GLBT community no favors, is clearly delusional. At last night's Hollywood premiere of The Love Guru, she announced that she played an integral part in California dropping the ban on gay marriage:

[The legalization of gay marriage] is because of me — I definitely think [my show] has helped the movement. Before it came out, everyone was still a little apprehensive about [same sex relationships]. Then they realized, 'Wow, everyone is really into this stuff, and it is fine.' The next thing you know, [gay marriage] is legal.

We're sure the Supreme Court took one look at Tila performing fellatio on a pickle and being passed around in a family hot tub orgy and thought, "You know what? This gay marriage stuff isn't so bad after all. Looks like good clean fun."

Angelina Jolie, on her non-marriage to Brad Pitt:

People have made a lot out of it that we’re not, but we both have been married before, and it’s very easy to get married, but it’s not easy to build a family and be parents together. And maybe we’ve done it backwards, but we certainly feel married.

Even If That Means Forever Silencing Those Inner Urges

ellenwill.jpg

Noted Hollywood star and heterosexual Will Smith appeared on Ellen DeGeneres’ television show on Monday to discuss – as Ellen is wont to do following some little California court ruling – marriage. Ellen, as you might have heard, plans to marry girlfriend Portia de Rossi, and so that is all she can think about, even if her writers might have put other talking points on her cue cards. So how has Smith, who is married to heavy metal singer Jada Pinkett, kept his marriage going strong for 10 years?

Takei and Altman have been together for 21 years and they love each other very much. Clearly, their wedding will be a tremendous blow to family values.

In light of the California Supreme Court decision to overturn the ban on gay marriage, Ellen DeGeneres — lesbian, host, friend — announced during a taping of her show yesterday that she will marry longtime partner Portia de Rossi, who was in the audience at the time. At the revelation, the audience rose to give DeGeneres and de Rossi a standing ovation. (We started tearing up while writing this; it's so damn overdue and cute.)

Huzzah! People in charge of laws that govern other, different people are finally starting to make sense:

The California Supreme Court has overturned a ban on gay marriage, paving the way for California to become the second state where gay and lesbian residents can marry.

The justices released the 4-3 decision Thursday, saying that domestic partnerships are not a good enough substitute for marriage in an opinion written by Chief Justice Ron George.

Nick Cannon really lucked out with this marriage, but let's be honest: The guy has to live with Mariah Carey. We would be expecting a lot more than a diamond ring, but that's just us.

He’s reportedly looking for a little guidance from Judge Toler in hopes of saving the marriage before it’s too late. … Look for their Divorce Court segment to air on May 1st." Keep in mind that gays and lesbians in this country still can't get married, because the sanctity of the institution is just too precious.
