Sad People

Britney Spears, on whether or not she feels she missed out on her childhood:

I only did [The Mickey Mouse Club] for two years, and for six months out of each year I was at home all the time. I had a wonderful childhood, I was probably in my tenth year of school when I left to record my album — so I did the whole prom thing and played on the basketball team. There are some kids in show business who are always in New York and constantly going to audition, but I was fortunate it wasn't like that for me.

The sad thing is, she honestly believes she had a perfectly normal upbringing. She doesn't know any better. Going to prom does not equal being raised in a typical, stable environment.

Peeping Tom

The unstable and Peter Pan-like Michael Jackson has once again put himself in a suspicious position, this time moving into a Las Vegas mansion across the street from an elementary school for children 13 and younger. We couldn't make this stuff up.

Casino owner Steve Wynn reportedly put Michael up in attempts to persuade the singer to appear in a Vegas comeback show. Regardless of who selected this property, did nobody think for one second that this might look bad for someone previously accused of child molestation? Nobody?

Most of the parents are concerned, claiming "he can see the kids getting on the school bus from his house." We'd be more concerned about the children actually wandering over to his Neverland-type setup like moths to a flame, but to each his own.

Counterintuitive Things

Very raggy rag Star magazine has done some digging and discovered that Leighton Meester, funny surname owner and Gossip Girl beeotch, was born in a halfway home while her mother was incarcerated for drug charges. Not sure why Star felt it necessary to bring this information to light, but now that it has, how much more respect do you have for this Leighton Meester lady, who maybe you once considered a throwaway, or didn't consider at all? We still can't produce a nugget of care for Gossip Girl, but good for her.
