As Randy Jackson might say, "American Idol is completely flipping the script on your ass, dogg."

Us is reporting that the ratings heavyweight is shopping for a Paula Abdul replacement, and apparently they're looking to the Yoko of grunge to fill her shoes. That's right, Courtney Love has been tapped to guest judge, and possibly take over for Abdul.

Love reveals to her favorite magazine Web site that Idol's executive producer Nigel Lythgoe called her office last week inquiring into whether she would be interested in sitting in as a judge on the hit FOX show.

"He called," Love tells Usmagazine.com. "He was wondering if I was interested. I thought it was kind of weird but brilliant."

Is FOX lining up a replacement for slap-happy Paula Abdul, or just looking to spice up the show with the always-entertaining rocker/actress? Love, who is currently in L.A. recording a solo album, declined to reveal any more specific details.

But a source tells Usmagazine.com that Lythgoe was considering having Love "replace Paula."

FOX, hate to break it to you, but replacing Paula Abdul with Courtney Love is like replacing a Merlot stain with a blood stain.

That said, I think I'll file this under "To believe when seen," especially considering their main source is Love herself who, in the past, has also tried to convince people that she's godlike and cool. Both of which seem to be fairly specious claims.

My primary experience with Randy Jackson was watching American Idol this season for the first time. While his silly looking and consistently coordinated glasses/shirt combinations intrigued me, I was never quite sure what he was bringing to the table. Other than the ‘Dawg Pound’ and I think we all could do without that.

Mariah Carey, on the other hand, has a little more faith in Randy’s taste. She is hiring both his name and his expertise to help her on tour this summer.

Mariah Carey is tapping a longtime friend - American Idol judge Randy Jackson - to help her mix things up a bit on her Adventures of Mimi tour, which kicks off in August. "With this tour, I'm going to be working on some different arrangements for some of the older songs, to kind of like, give it a little more life to them," Carey recently told the Associated Press. "That's not to say they're going to sound totally different and to freak anybody out… (but) I love re-singing songs to different music."

I mostly just hope that Randy Jackson sits in the front row of every show judging Mariah, constantly judging, and shushing the crowd after every song so that he can throw in his two nonsensical cents.
