SEX PLOTS COME TO THE FOREFRONT OF CULTURE "In the life-imitates-art department, there's no better example than David Duchovny, a real sex addict - he recently checked into rehab for sex addiction - who plays one in the Showtime series 'Californication.' … Yet Duchovny's show is not the only place where once underground practices are moving into the mainstream. Opening Friday is 'Choke,' … starring Sam Rockwell as a sex addict; George Clooney plays one for laughs in the recent 'Burn After Reading.' Writer-director Kevin Smith's 'Zack and Miri Make a Porno,' opening Oct. 31, tells of platonic friends … who raise money by starring in their own sex film. … Coming soon to the WE network are 'Secret Lives of Women: Sex Addicts' … and a new reality series, 'Sex Change Hospital.' CBS recently broadcast 'Swingtown,' a summer replacement series about swinging '70s couples. And really pushing the envelope is Palahniuk's latest novel, 'Snuff,' about an aging porn star determined to have sex with 600 men in a single day."

This movie poster, for Kevin Smith's October release Zack and Miri Make a Porno, was deemed inappropriate by the MPAA, which doesn't just hate BitTorrent users but also regulates all movie advertising in exchange for slapping letters like "PG" and "R" on movies to keep kids safe. Because the poster, like those fake Puma ads, insinuated oral sex, they were not cleared for use by Hollywood's regulatory body. (This, after the MPAA agreed to downgrade the movie's rating from NC-17 to R.) So Kevin Smith went back to the drawing board, and came up with this safer, family-friendly version:

Last night was the LA premiere of James Franco and Seth Rogen's weed-filled Pineapple Express, which attracted a vast array of celebrities. Nobody quite knows for sure how Adrianne Curry was invited, but those in attendance were graced with the presence of Kanye West and his odd shoes. You win some, you lose some.

Prepare to be bombarded with pictures after the jump.

CHUBBY STONER AS SUPERHERO? "Sony is moving forward with what may be the most unlikely superhero film yet: The Green Hornet starring Seth Rogen. The Knocked Up star will play Britt Reid, a bored playboy who inherits his father's crusading newspaper and spends his nights fighting crime with his sidekick, Kato."

Celebrity Portraits Worth Seeing

vanchar

Vanity Fair is this month running yet another celebrity photo shoot and, guess what? For once, it's cool!

The concept was to recreate famous scenes from Alfred Hitchcock films and some of the resultant shots are beautiful. Finally, an idea good enough that it makes Annie Leibovitz and her dozen assistants seem interesting.

Cheech and Chong Are Dead

The slow but noticeable growth of the role of weed in Seth Rogen's movies – now culminating with an entire film dedicated to it – is quite similar to the way the drug gradually dominated some of our friends' lives over the years.

Just a warning, Rogen: most of them are still losers.
