The funny thing about people who get mad if you make fun of the Sex and the City women is that the Sex and the City women hate each other more than any cultural critic out there. It's true! We've read about them fighting about clothes and screen time and favoritism and blah, blah, blah. And that's when they were all successful for the same thing. Imagine the backbiting that's happening now that Samantha's getting her OWN HBO show.

[Kim] Cattrall is set to star in and executive produce an adaptation of the British comedy series "Sensitive Skin," which is being written and exec produced by Emmy-winning "The Sopranos" scribes Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green.

The project, in development at the pay cable network with a significant penalty attached to it, centers on a middle-aged wife and mother (Cattrall) in New York who rediscovers her sexuality and begins to question her place in the world and the choices she has made in life.

Game, set, match: Cattrall.

And girl is pissed.

Sarah Jessica Parker had 40 dresses selected for various Sex and the City premieres, and worse this Nina Ricci gown, designed by Olivier Theyskens, to the New York debut. She was assured it was the first time it had been worn by anyone in public. Except it wasn’t.

COITUS INTERRUPTUS "Warner Bros has told me this morning that 'Sex and the City' scored an estimated $17.7 million on Saturday, and the studio is calling for $55.7 million for opening weekend. That marks a 35% drop from Friday-to-Saturday as this two-quadrant phenomenon proved incredibly front-loaded."

OK, just got this e-mail from a – not joking – Ms Goon, asking if I'd like to cover an event in which women will be hawking hair dye made especially for pubes. "Let me know if you’re interested in attending, covering or need high res images, thanks!" she shouts. I, of course, am not interested, and I can't imagine what type of person would be after reading a description like this:

'Most Men Are Sluts'

laurenhutton.jpg

Model Lauren Hutton, who participates in an industry that mainly requires her to keep quiet and look pretty, should probably continue to do just that. In a diatribe on The Today Show, Hutton criticized Sex and the City for portraying all women as sluts:

It's written by guys, who happen to be gay, who are sluts. That's what I think.

Let's face it: Most men are sluts. That's what testosterone is supposed to do. As a hunter, if you stayed alive after 30, nature wanted your genes out there. Women were just trying to get the best sperm to make a masterpiece.

You have a bunch a guys who are sluts, writing for women and telling them they are supposed to act like this.

Sure, you could maybe argue the issues with stereotypes, but the main writer behind all this is Candace Bushnell — definitely not a gay man. Sadly, Hutton is a prime example of someone who probably has something worthwhile to say who simply comes across as crazy.

'SEX' BY THE NUMBERS "… during the course of 94 episodes and six seasons, the women of 'Sex and the City' hit the sheets with a combined total of 94 men and one woman. … Of the four women, public relations exec Samantha racked up the most sexual partners. She bedded 41 men and one woman, while Carrie hooked up with 18, Charlotte 18 and Miranda 17. Everyone has a 'number.' But how many is too many and were the 'Sex and the City' women oversexed? Definitely - compared to the average American woman, who has nine sex partners in a lifetime."

We were halfheartedly joking yesterday when we guessed that there would be a lot of tactless, racially-motivated humor in the Sex and the City movie, and we were pleasantly surprised when readers who had already seen the flick declared – however cattily – that we were way off base. Turns out those readers are shameful liars.

Anthony Lane's absolutely eviscerating New Yorker review of SATCTM reveals one rather glaring affront on the diversity that makes "the City" so damn great for those of us largely uninterested in its boutiques.

That plea gets second prize for the most revealing line in the film, the winner being Miranda’s outburst as she hunts for an apartment in a mainly Chinese district: “White guy with a baby! Let’s follow him.” So that’s what drives these people: Aryan real estate.

Yay! Stick together, white Americans! And shame on the race-mixers.

As we're sure you all know, 'tis the eve of the Sex and the City: The Movie premiere and people are flipping the hell out, dropping everything for the opportunity to be the first one on the cul-de-sac to see if Samantha really dies like all the papers say. (J/K)

Well, not us. How are we supposed to get excited about a movie portraying the lives of characters we would actively avoid were they real people? Then, a light bulb: booze!

We've made this handy-ass SATCTM drinking game in order to help perk up anyone else who's less than thrilled about having to sit through two and a quarter hours of trite sexual innuendo. Take it, some flasks, and a case or two into the theater with you this weekend to get really, truly "Carried" away. And do try to avoid vomiting on someone's pink blouse.

Heard about this movie Gangbang in the Gotham or Humping in the Apple or something? It comes out this week and the media can't seem to stop talking about either it or the advertising for it; a funny thing considering that talking about how crazy the advertising is for a movie is simply advertising for a movie in a crazy way. (Please, make the check out to "Cash," Sarah Jessica.)

Anyway, professional thieves in both New York and LA are already thinking of ways to swindle fans of Parker et al into paying exorbitant amounts of money to see this movie, which, though insane, seems to be working.

Among the most elaborate: sold-out "Sex and the City" tours throughout Gotham on Friday. The tours, starting at 10 minute intervals in mid-afternoon, stop off at the Pleasure Chest, where Charlotte purchased her Rabbit sex toy, and the bakery where Miranda devoured cupcakes, before a nosh, screening of the movie and afterparty at Guesthouse. Cosmos aren't included in the $130 pricetag…

Hey, if Carrie and the girls have taught us anything, it's spend indiscriminately and never worry about the consequences, because life is a fucking TV show. Have fun!

Can't Keep A Good Woman Down

satcshutout.jpg

Last night's Sex and the City movie premiere wasn't all Manolos and butterflies — a large crowd of pathetic twenty-somethings was stuck outside Radio City Music Hall, despite possessing invitations to the event. Turns out the venue was oversold by 2,000 tickets. Whoops!

Despite this, look for all of the shunned guests to spend $11 on movie tickets this weekend after enjoying one too many cosmos with their girlfriends while on the prowl for a real-life Mr. Big. Feminism at its finest.

End Of Days

satcpremiere2.jpg

It has descended upon us: The Sex and the City movie premiered last night in New York City, much to the delight of … Eli Manning? He was one of the guests in attendance, for reasons unknown, at the type of over-the-top shindig that should only be reserved for stuff like the second coming of Xenu.

The pictures (and there are many) are after the jump.

This movie! This MOVIE! This damn Sex and the City: The Movie movie!

It's inescapable (especially in THE city), but does that mean it's going to be successful? No.

But probably yes, too.

The recent history of female-focused summer films shows it could go either way. The Devil Wears Prada debuted in June of 2006 with $27 million opening weekend — on its way to a considerable $124 million grand total domestically. But just a few weeks ago, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler took center stage in Baby Mama, a widely hyped comedy that opened with a respectable-but-less-than-stellar $17 million opening weekend.

After the jump, industry analysts assess the situation while simultaneously calling you and your friends predictable and Kentucky primitive.

Is It Over Yet?

The Sex and the City ladies are now taking Germany by storm, and thank goodness Sarah Jessica Parker decided against wearing another bird on her head. And is it just us, or is it odd that the movie still has yet to premiere in the city in which it's based?

'Another Dillema for Which the Only Cure Is an Expansive Shopping Trip'

Sex and the City: The Movie premiered in London yesterday and the reviews are in:

There may be a problem with a film when a narrator constantly tells you the meaning of what you have just seen, gift-wrapping each scene with a moral.

There may be a problem with characters who shop with such conviction while the audience looks up from the trough of a credit crunch.

There may be a problem with stretching Sex and the City into a two hour and twenty minute film - it can feel like a never ending dinner party: however pleasant the courses, after a while you can hardly eat another one.

None of these problems seemed apparent to the women who sat around me in the cinema in Leicester Square, laughing and weeping in quick succession. After a while I began to reason like one of the characters: maybe the problem was me.

Oh, so more of the same, then?

Representing Women Everywhere

OMG, it's finally here! The Sex and the City movie premiered today in London, because that totally makes sense, what with the movie being based in New York City and all. As expected, Sarah Jessica Parker stole the spotlight — much to the other stars' dismay — with a ridiculous bird on top of her head.
