There hasn't exactly been a whole lot of Oscar buzz surrounding Spike Lee's new World War II film, The Miracle at St. Anna, but if there is and he doesn't get one, he'll know why. Lesson for those who want an Academy Award: don't mess with Clint Eastwood… or, better yet, move to Los Angeles.

DEMS THROW PARTY OF THE YEAR; GOP NOT INVITED "Celebrities may be scarce at the Republican convention come September, but the Democrats have so many clamoring to get into their convention in Denver the week before, it's like the Vanity Fair Oscar party. George Clooney, Madonna, Kanye West, Scarlett Johansson, Susan Sarandon, Spike Lee, Quentin Tarantino and Matt Damon are just a few of the stars who want to be there … The Republicans have even engaged top William Morris agent Jeffrey Barry to try to wrangle country western stars to trek to the Twin Cities, a political source tells us. He's garnered 'Redneck Woman' singer Gretchen Wilson, the source adds, but Barry wouldn't answer questions about whether he's rounded up more."

THIS ONE'S SURE TO HAVE ENOUGH BLACK PEOPLE "Spike Lee may not be done with Hurricane Katrina yet. The director of the HBO miniseries 'When the Levees Broke' said Thursday he's considering visiting the area where Katrina struck again in the next 24 months for a potential follow-up to 'Levees.' … While Lee didn't specify what the project would cover, he hinted at its focus when he described his feelings about the current situation on the Gulf Coast. 'What the press is not really talking about is the mental state — suicide, self-medication,' he said. 'It's horrible.'"

Race Wars

Mamma mia! Angry black man Spike Lee is getting a taste of his own opportunistic outrage.

After spending the past couple weeks hectoring fellow director Clint Eastwood with charges of prejudiced casting, Lee is now under fire from the Italic Institute of America, which is as bitter as Campari about Lee's portrayal of Italians.

According to Bill Dal Cerro, president of the Italic Institute of America, Lee may have his own anti-Italian racist tendencies to worry about.

"Spike Lee is very talented, but I sometimes wish he'd practice what he preaches," Dal Cerro said. "His points about African-Americans are well taken, but, ironically, he does the same thing to Italians in his films."

While Dal Cerro doesn't get into specific charges against Lee, we imagine he takes issue with the way a lot of the Italian Americans in Lee's films are fiery, Brooklyn-accented racists who would rather see their daughter's dead than with "some fuggin' moulignan." If you've seen Jungle Fever and Do the Right Thing, you know Dal Cerro has a point, but then again, you won't catch our wide nose in Bensonhurst at night.

After the jump, "Fuck you, fuck your fuckin' pizza and fuck Frank Sinatra."

Just like you knew he would, Spike Lee has completely ignored fellow director Clint Eastwood's recommendation that he "shut his face," telling ABC News, "[Eastwood] is not my father and we’re not on a plantation either." (In case you're not up to speed: Lee said publicly that Eastwood was remiss in not including black actors in his last two WWII films, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima.) Lee continued:

He’s a great director. He makes his films, I make my films. The thing about it though, I didn’t personally attack him. And a comment like ‘a guy like that should shut his face’ — come on Clint, come on. He sounds like an angry old man right there.

Angry, indeed, Spike, but the facts do a good job of explaining why, exactly, Clint's mad about being called an inaccurate bigot. Let's break it down:

Aging, stubborn director fight!

In the black corner, we have the Afrocentric Spike Lee, upset because Clint Eastwood's last two WWII films, Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima, had a dearth of black actors. In the white corner, Eastwood, who says Lee is, and always has been, an insatiable crybaby.

Here's the punches:

HOW SOON UNTIL IT DEVOLVES INTO PORN? "In a deal with Nokia, Spike Lee will assess video, music, photos and text material created by consumers with their cellphones, then help assemble the various snippets into a three-part short film … The film will have three acts with the theme loosely based on the concept of humanity."

Model Behavior

nabanglead

Supermodel and common criminal Naomi Campbell has been forced to pull out of director Spike Lee's World War II drama Miracle at St Anna for no other reason than lack of effort.

According to reports, "Campbell could not commit herself to learning the scenes she would have appeared in." In her defense, Campbell can't commit herself to learning the difference between paper and plastic, but still.

060806 Sarah Jessica-Parker Spike Lee 2.jpg
Sarah Jessica Parker can try all she wants to differentiate herself from her character on Sex and the City, but you know what they say it takes a whiney high-maintainance diva to know one. This morning to launch a new Cartier charity project, SJP and Spike Lee announced the event at the NASDAQ Stock Exchance right before they rang the opening bell. Open All Night has the story:

Famous jeweler Cartier launched a charity initiative, and proclaimed today, June 8, “Declare Your Love Day”. The company will donate 10% of today’s sales of their LOVE collection to charities chosen by a number of celebrities, including Spike Lee and Sarah Jessica Parker.

After each said a few words, the countdown began and dramatic music swelled in preparation for the 9:30 A.M. opening of trading. At 9:27, with Lee, Parker and [Cartier North America CEO Frederic de Narp] at the podium along with NASDAQ officials, we saw Sarah Jessica Parker mouth the words, “I’m out of here”, and she bolted and left the building before the bell was rung. We asked reps for a comment, but they merely said that Parker had only committed to the Cartier announcement.

It's so like that bitch to flee in the heat of the moment, hello, marrying Aidan, anyone? The girls are so gonna have their way with her at brunch tomorrow.
