Not In A Good Way

The Tom Cruise Crazy Train shows no signs of slowing down, with the latest stop on the cover of T: The New York Times Style Magazine's "Holiday/Reinvention" issue. It's like we went back three years, when Cruise kept discussing how much he loves Katie Holmes. Look, Tom, we get that you're "happy" or whatever, but it might be a bit more believable if you weren't so over the top about it all.

About his robotic wife, Tom revealed that he took things slow:

'I knew I wanted to marry Kate when I met her.'

When Holmes confessed to him that she dreamed of marrying him as a little girl, 'I said I wouldn't want to disappoint her,' Cruise says. So, the actor says, he bought Holmes an engagement ring shortly after their first date in 2005.

'At one point, I thought she was going to ask me to marry her first and I put her off by changing the subject,' Cruise adds. 'I wanted to ask her.'

For our fellow Office fans, remember the "awww" you let out when Jim showed off his engagement ring for Pam, admitting that he bought it a week after they started dating? That's not the same feeling we get when Tom Cruise says basically the same thing. Not at all.

What Up, 212?

I had admittedly been counting down the days until The Office premiered its fifth season, and last night's hour-long episode was certainly worth the wait. I don't want to give too much away for those who have yet to see the show, so I've listed my favorite moments after the jump — and you can add your own.

That's what she said

It's hard to distinguish between writer/actor/comedian B.J. Novak and his alter-ego Ryan Howard from The Office, notably because Novak hasn't done much else besides the NBC show. For the most part B.J. is Ryan: a wunderkind who came out of nowhere and rose to the top and seems a little cocky about it. Sort of like NBC executive producer Ben Silverman, the rumored inspiration for the character of Ryan.

With The Office season premiere tomorrow, now is as good a time as any to look back at the solo work of the young man who just told The New York Times: "I don’t see the value in quote-unquote brilliant things that people don’t like, and I don’t see the value in things that people like that I don’t respect."

Rumor has it Columbia Pictures is quietly putting together a script for a third installment of the Ghostbusters franchise. Hoping to bring back the original cast, which included Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson, the studio has enlisted top-notch producers of The Office to write the new script.

Obviously this would be huge, but would it kill Hollywood to pass up a money-making opportunity to preserve the awesomeness of the classics?

NOT DARRYL! "Craig Robinson — Darryl the warehouse guy from The Officewas arrested June 29 for possession of a multitude of drugs, including meth and ecstasy. Cops in Culver City, Calif. say they pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation and found the drugs and the actor inside the car. [Craig was charged] with possession of meth and ecstasy and being under the influence of cocaine, amphetamines and cannabinoids."

More news from Mother Russia! Known mostly for its sense of humor and unwillingness to accept differences, Russia is in the midst of planning its own version of the hit Western comedy The Office. Exact details of the show are still sketchy, but do expect an episode in which Jim invites Pam to his apartment to drink hairspray and rub the chill from each other's legs.

"I am not a security threat. And my middle name is 'Kurt,' not 'Fart.'"

Rainn Wilson took over the CNN newsroom to shamelessly plug his new movie, which might be considered annoying if we weren't completely in love with him. The anchor calls Rainn "the guy from The Office" and then questions his credentials. Uh, if anyone is qualified to discuss gales and hail storms, it's Dwight K. Schrute.

SNL JUST GOT EVEN WORSE "'Saturday Night Live' star Amy Poehler may be ready for primetime after all. The actress is said to be in talks to star in the new NBC spin-off of 'The Office,' the trades report. Details about the show have been kept tightly under wraps and the only actor cast in the project so far is comedian Aziz Ansari. There has been speculation, however, that the show might be built around a name actor, similar to how the original 'Office' is anchored by Steve Carell. Still, the series, despite initially being called an 'Office' spin-off, isn’t expected to be one after all, Variety notes."

So, the The Office spinoff is shaping up to be less a spinoff and more a brand new show, without any characters from the original American version transitioning. Bummer. But! Like The Office, said new show will star an East Indian actor who doesn't speak with an accent, and that is to be commended.

Details are finally starting to emerge on NBC's highly anticipated "The Office" spinoff — including the show's first cast hire, Aziz Ansari of MTV's sketch comedy "Human Giant."

Producers are mum on Ansari's role, but he'll be part of a larger ensemble that executive producers Greg Daniels and Michael Schur are putting together.

THE BEET FARM? "Six weeks before the traditional broadcast upfront, NBC unveiled its scheduling plans through summer 2009 … 'The Office' was front and center at the event … Indeed, the network's biggest announcement was the series pickup of a long-rumored spinoff that Silverman produced before taking the reins of NBC. Silverman said the entire 'Office' creative team is behind the spinoff but did not provide any details, other than saying, 'you may see some of the actors on that show on the other show.' The 'Office' spinoff will premiere after the Super Bowl on Feb. 1."

'I Nursed At Your Comedy Teet'

The Office's Rainn Wilson stopped by to visit David Letterman last night for his first appearance on the late night talk show. Dave admitted to being slightly creeped out, but we assume he was simply jealous of the power that is Dwight Schrute.

The New York Daily News is reporting that Dunder Mifflin, Inc's most attractive employees, Rashida Jones and John Krasinski, are still an off-screen item.

…the two weren't looking likes exes Monday night at the "Shrek the Third" premiere, in which Krasinski voices Lancelot.

Jones snuck in separately to take her place next to Krasinski in the Chelsea Clearview Cinema. We saw them sitting low in their seats and leaning against each other during the screening. And they left together before the film ended.

In case you don't know, Rashida Jones is a testament to the fact that her father Quincy produces amazing music and daughters.

For any naysayers out there, Angela Kinsey is proof positive that personality is kinda the only thing that matters. Granted, on television she wears much less makeup and has no fashion sense, but her beautiful foundation is pretty unshakable. So what makes her so repulsive on the show? It all lies in her bitchy, judgmental passive aggression. When she's out of character—all smiles and cute coquettishness at press events like this one—she's the picture of perfection. No more thinking looks outweigh humanity.
