YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY • "A faint scar runs across Tina Fey's left cheek, the result of a violent cutting attack by a stranger when Fey was five. Her husband says, 'It was in, like, the front yard of her house, and somebody who just came up, and she just thought somebody marked her with a pen.' You can hardly see the scar in person."
Now that there's no more election (or Tina Fey or Amy Poehler), Saturday Night Live got back to the basics this weekend: Surprise celebrity guest stars and men in women's clothing. For this episode (featuring adorable host Paul Rudd), Justin Timberlake showed up to seem likable for five minutes during a skit involving a Beyonce music video shoot. The former boy bander has become quite the tool as of late, but he always manages to be fairly awesome when he's on this show, so we approve.

Barbara Walters released the names of some of her Most Fascinating People for 2008. Among the lucky losers are Will Smith (uh, why?), Tom Cruise (again, why?), Miley Cyrus, Tina Fey, Frank Langella, Rush Limbaugh and Michael Phelps. We agree with a few, but overall it looks to be another snoozefest.
After the jump: Mollygood's Most Fascinating People for 2008. Feel free to add to the list. CONTINUED »

Now that the election is over and both Tina Fey and Sarah Palin have ended their runs playing the potential future Vice President, what's in the cards for the two women? Both are hilarious — one intentionally, one unintentionally — and both are beautiful and (arguably) talented. So who will stand a better chance for success in life after the presidential election? FEY RETIRES PALIN IMPRESSION; SNL TO BE CRAPPY AGAIN "Tina Fey’s hilarious turn as Sarah Palin put Saturday Night Live on the electoral map like nothing else in recent memory — viewership is up nearly 70 percent this season. But will Fey continue to moonlight as the gorgeous governor, who could be a parody-worthy public figure for years to come? 'I have to retire just because I have to do my day job,' reveals the creator and star of NBC’s 30 Rock (which experienced a 20 percent ratings uptick for its Oct. 30 season premiere). 'I think [Kristen] Wiig would do a really good job.'"
John McCain's last-ditch effort to garner support from undecided voters was successful on the humor front, but we won't know until tomorrow if it won over enough Americans to get him elected to the White House. He was a good sport, appearing alongside Tina Fey's Sarah Palin and making fun of his own campaign, even admitting the only celebrity endorsements he has are Jon Voight and "Heidi from The Hills." Granted, celebrity endorsements shouldn't matter, but knowing he has a nitwit like Heidi on his side surely won't help.
Our favorite Baldwin brother, Alec, chatted with David Letterman last night about his stint on SNL with national joke Sarah Palin. He has great things to say about the lady, although he admits he doesn't want "her hand on the nuclear button." Sounds like someone's been talking to Matt Damon.
He also shows off his not-as-good-as-Tina Fey Palin impression and reminds us how senile his Bible thumping brother, Stephen, has truly become.

Does anyone else get the sense that these Weekend Update Thursdays only work because of YouTube and Hulu and the ilk? Because it's doubtful anyone watches this program on its own, but it is really convenient to have bite-size clips of it ready in the morning. Sort of like SNL itself? Discuss.
Anyway, Will Ferrell gave his promised cameo on the show last night, with a marked return of his President Bush character. It was funny! Especially when he referred to Sarah Palin and Barack Obama as "the hot lady and the Tiger Woods guy."
See for yourself, after the jump:

We've said this many times before, but it bears repeating: Tina Fey's Sarah Palin impression is the only good thing to come out of the Alaskan governor's run for the vice presidency. Unfortunately for the United States of America, if that crazy lady wins in November and takes office, Fey refuses to stick around:
Election time is always good for [SNL] and this is a bonkers election. And [Palin] is a media star. … We're gonna take it week by week. If she wins, I'm done. I can't do that for four years. And by 'I'm done,' I mean I'm leaving Earth.
Can you take us with you, Tina? Forget moving to Canada — we're heading to Mars with Fey.

Mark Wahlberg, the man behind both "Good Vibrations" and Entourage, isn't exactly known for his warm and friendly demeanor. So it should come as no surprise that Marky Mark had some harsh words for Saturday Night Live after the show featured a clip of him (played by Andy Samberg) talking to random animals. The sketch was bizarre and slightly humorous (still, it's no "Fancy Pants"), but Wahlberg was not amused.
Someone showed it to me on YouTube. It wasn't like Tina Fey doing Sarah Palin, that's for sure. And Saturday Night Live hasn't been funny for a long time. They've asked me to do the show a ton of times. I used to watch it when Eddie Murphy was there and Joe Piscopo and Bill Murray. I don't even know who's on the show now.
Oh, Marky Mark. You should probably be grateful to SNL for this whole thing — it's the most attention you've had in years. Click through for the clip and judge for yourself. CONTINUED »

SNL's Weekend Update moved to a new spot in lieu of the upcoming elections, and last night marked the first time the precursor to The Daily Show featured a mid-week special, hosted by Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler.
Was it funny? Meh. Was Bill Murray there? Ye-op:

Sarah Palin will likely make a surprise (not anymore!) guest-appearance on SNL this weekend to good-humorously combat Tina Fey's dead-on impression.
TINA FEY'S CHARITABLE BOOK DEAL "… according to a source with firsthand knowledge of the deal, [Tina Fey] finalized [a book deal] with Little, Brown & Co. The book—which was reportedly pitched as a book of humorous essays in the style of Nora Ephron—will be edited by executive editor Reagan Arthur. According to our source, part of Ms. Fey's deal with the publishing house involves a gift to the foundation Books for Kids that will help sponsor the building of six libraries for schools in under-served neighborhoods in New York."

Bless Tina Fey's heart. The only person who provides a positive in the whole Sarah Palin fiasco is the former SNL funny lady, who has graced the television show week after week to expose the vice presidential candidate's ignorance. This week was, of course, a spoof of Thursday's night's VP debates, and Fey nailed it, down to the constant usage of the word "maverick" and blatant disregard of the moderator's questions. And good news for the Palin crazies: The skit also ripped into Joe Biden.

YEP, TV'S STILL DYING "More than half of the viewers for 'Saturday Night Live's' recent skits featuring Tina Fey as Sarah Palin watched the sketches on the web as of Sept. 29, according to a survey conducted by Solutions Research Group. About 51% of viewers who have seen at least one of the skits are watching on the internet, indicating that viewing preferences for this type of content are shifting toward the computer. About 23% of all views came from YouTube, including video of other talk shows that showed clips of the skit, with 17% of views attributed to NBC.com and 4% to Hulu.com."
The mere thought that Alaskan idiot Sarah Palin could very well be running our country in the near future is no longer funny — but Tina Fey's impression of the VP nominee is. The former SNL-er's shtick is so dead-on that we stopped laughing after a while because it's not even that exaggerated: This lady truly is absurd. Tina, you are the only one who can help us through this.
FEY HOPES END IS NEAR FOR PALIN IMPRESSION "Tina Fey is considering reprising her impression of Sarah Palin, she said backstage at the Emmys. 'We’re going to take it week by week, but probably.' And what if the candidate winds up someday being President Palin? 'I want to be done playing this lady Nov. 5, so if anyone can help me be done, that’ll be good.'"
FEY'S PALIN MOCKERY SCORES BIG "… Tina Fey's 'Saturday Night Live' spoof of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin on Saturday … gave NBC.com its most-watched viral video ever. The video not only topped past favorites like 'Dick in a Box' and 'Lazy Sunday,' but managed to outdo copies uploaded to YouTube. … Fey's mimicry of Palin has been a barnburner for NBC.com, garnering 5.7 million views as of Wednesday, according to internal NBC data. That is far and away the most popular video on the site, easily exceeding second-place finisher 'Box,' which collected just over 1 million views on NBC.com."
