A good work ethic on the part of the actor and the styling team can do wonders, but it's solely up to Blanchett to capture the correct inflection in the irritating mumble all the boomers get weepy over.

Can I ask why no one is having a shit fit about a woman playing a man when people were up in arms over Angelina Jolie playing Marianne Pearl?
I for one am very excited about this movie…Evil it's probably cause her wig was really bad
And the one shown above is good? It looks like roadkill.
Men are completely under-exposed in movies.
That's Dylan for ya…were people seriously mad about Pearl? I missed it
She was in "Coffee and Cigarettes." Now that movie had all the ethnic bases covered. Even the "extremely white" category, Jack White and the "extremely leathery," Iggy Pop. A lot of independent filmakers (Jim Jarmusch) do a great job at diversifying. I'd much rather be cast in an "artsy" independent film, than a run-of-the-mill Hollywood formula movie.
Oh, yeah, some people were calling for Angie's head, saying that it was tantamount to Vaudeville days of performing in blackface.
I blame Mary Martin for this whole damn thing.
I have tried to like Jarmusch but just haven't…think I lack the attention span or something. But one of him is better than 100 Ratners
Laurence Olivier did that in his production of "Othello"…I ain't heard nobody bitchin' bout that.
Interesting…aren't Pearl and Jolie friends? that's probably why she did it. Whatever that wig still bugged me
Here's what I was talking about:

See, it's an insult if a white actress plays a mixed race or minority character.
However, if a minority is passed over for the role of a Caucasian when the movie is based on a true story it's "racism."
And here, I thought it was "acting." Thanks for setting me straight, Kitch.
I help out where I can.
good article on both sides, ET. Who knows. Just glad she wasn't portrayed by a midget.
Night ladies! Busting outta here early! BALE!!!!
My brain is having too many thoughts at the moment. I saw a clip but she still seemed very feminine. She is a phenomenal actress so she can probably pull it off.
I can't decide on a small clip. I'm more interested in seeing Bale as Dylan.
I can't stand Bob Dylan at all. Although if Bale were playing him, I'd see it.
I don't understand his appeal either, but the 60s were a time when skinny, ugly dudes got laid a lot.
It's a good thing I wasn't born then. I'd have slept with them all.
Yeah, me too. I would have made Grace Slick look like a nun.
I had such a good point to make about the disadvantage biracial people might face. And then it was all, Bale this, and Bale that, and now I'm all…mmm Bale deliiiicious…
A) Bale is playing him
B) Bob Dylan is a phenomenal lyricist, author, musician and poet.
C) I'm so excited about this movie and for Blanchett to play part of him because I think bending gender lines is such a creative form of expressing the life of this influential and creative man.
