Like a skillful hit man, Britney Spears efficiently and effectively dispatched her career last evening, leaving it bloody and immobile in the wake of a laughable performance at the beginning of the MTV Video Awards. Her dancing was so anemic and her lipsynching so spotty that the whole affair resembled a well-funded high school talent show more than a professional coup. Sorry if you're a fan, because she's pretty much done. At this point, I'm not even sure if the gays can save her.

After the jump, lots more performance stills.

Shitney was even more horrible that i expected. i expected her to suck when i read the reports of her psrtying days before the performance. but even i did not expect it to be so spectacularly bad. she looked as if someone had forced her to go onstage so she was damned if she was going to perform. i wonder who forced her to wear a bra 2 sizes too small, and a bikini bottom that showed the world the size of her beer gut? i wonder who told her she could walk much less dance in stiletto boots? stick a fork in her — she's so done.

I could not wait for this post…mostly because I want to see if anyone really talks about it.

I was a Britney fan, and while I've been disappointed in her actions and lack of good judgement, I secretly in my heart wanted her to succeed. When I heard her new single, all 12 words of it, I thought maybe she had a chance. I thought maybe if she had a little success she would snap out of it and come back to reality. At this point, I don't have anything good or bad to say about her. Nothing good for obvious reasons, and nothing bad because I can't kick people when they are down. Last night was proof positive that Brit has no idea what's going on, and she's turned herself into a washed up wild child that doesn't realize she's washed up yet…which to me is worse than anything else. Most of us have some sense of awareness, and to be living in a world that you actually think a bra and boy shorts are a good choice for the VMA's - or that the performance was anywhere near the level it should have been, it's more sad than anything.

That being said…I will no longer consider myself ANY sort of Britney supporter, except for one that hopes she gets it - and soon - and gets the help she so obviously needs.

I loved her dance moves. She seriously didn't even use full range of motion. She just walked across the stage and everyone danced around her.

And then there was the outfit. That would have been hot on her about 5 years ago. And the beer belly was freaking me out.

Sara Silverman was killing me after her performance. "The two cutest mistakes".

her people released a statment saying her performance was supposed to have flying and stuff, and "last minute" they told her the stage couldn't support it and she couldn't do it. Turns out "last minute" was Friday. Maybe instead of partying all weekend, she should have been reworking her routine. I think they made it worse coming out with a statment like that, considering all the party pics.

This woman's entire image of herself is so wrapped up in her sexuality that she can't imagine dressing, performing or singing songs unless it reflects a hyper-sexual persona. Her self-esteem issues are crippling her to such a point that she cannot even function without chemical assistance. She's too old now to be blaming others for her failures…everyone has had setbacks, criticisms and jokes made at their expense by the time they reach her age. The Palms cut the magic tricks out of her act last minute, citing safety concerns.

Sarah Silverman's rehearsal was literally "blah blah blah britney spears blah madonna blah blah" so there's no way she was upset about Sarah's bit, no one had heard it yet.

Britney was supposed to wear a corset top but decided not to at the last minute. why!?!?

She knew she did really badly. some people are saying she mouthed "i'm sorry" at the end of the performance, and she was seen sobbing backstage. it doesn't look like she went out partying that night, she was photographed with her brother going into a hotel and she looked pretty down.

i'm not really a fan of britney besides involuntarily singing along to one of her songs when i hear it, but i do feel bad for her. it seems like some stuff is blown out of proportion, i'm sure if she were an unfit parent child services wouldn't have closed their investigation. she's a mess, and obviously the people who are supposed to be handling her don't give a shit. but honestly, i didn't think it was that bad. i mean, she was a shadow of her former self, but she didn't fall, or start crying or throwing things, and she made it all the way to the end of the song without running off the stage dying of shame.

thanks! i have no glamorous title. i have to admit there's some part of me that's really interested in desigining a tomba juice logo and a company look. can i do that? (you'll have to remind me).

i love that there is a tomba on wiki. i can't figure who the seven evil pigs are, but i know travolta's in there.

"Tastes great and full if minerals, Tom-ba Juice is part of this complete earth takeover."

I have to give you money to work for you? Is this some new version of Capitalism? This is beginning to sound like one of those scams where you're gonna take all my money, clothes and dignity and leave me on the strip, stripped.

    Sounds kinda fun actually….

james_boston sounds so much cooler…don't get me started on matt & ben…everyone here hates them but I figure it's jealousy…and the fact that ben was always kinda a dick. But Matt's a cool guy from what people say…i know a lotta people that went to high school with them and they really don't like Ben.

I grew up in Southie but my dad lived near Roslindale after he divorced my mom…on Hyde Park ave. somewhere…so maybe it was in Hyde Park. If there are two more boring towns in Mass. than rozzie and hyde park, well, I dare you to find 'em.

So you grew up in Southie too? Holy shit! If you weren't a girl, I'd be all over you, LOL! I grew up near the old colony projects…lived with my grandma for a while, then moved back in with my parents, then with my mom to south st. in J.P…again to the projects. J.P. was a fucking relief…I'm mixed and my mom is Black and my dad white…didn't feel particularly great in southie with my dad's family there back in the day (90's). They make Britney seem civilized.

Can we talk about this or are we gonna get in trouble with the powers-that-be?

As for rozzie, I don't think I ever went beyond Roslindale Sq., LOL! There used to be a great DMV right there…great 'cause it was never busy.

Oh they exist cait…the irish side of my family, you should hear some of them. but i got some really cool cousins too tho…it's mostly the old folks like my grandma…i know the bitch loves me but when i was a kid, i also remember her saying some really racist shit about my mom to my dad while i was in the same room. there's always pockets of intolerance up here…just like there must be pockets of tolerance in the south, LOL!

What's funny is that my dad comes from a staunch Irish Catholic family in New York. He was stationed in Selma for flight school, where he met my southern Baptist mother. My NY-based grandfather REFUSED to come to the wedding because he on TV all he had seen of Selma was the March on Selma. He assumed Mom was black, and couldn't decide if that was worse than the fact that she's a Protestant. Sigh. Crazy people.
