Following Springsteen's Lead
For the third time this election season, a band has asked the Republican party to not use one of its songs to introduce the party's presidential and vice-presidential nominees, John McCain and Sarah Palin. Much like Bruce Springsteen, who in 1984 asked Ronald Reagan to stop using "Born in the USA" on his reelection campaign trail, the artists say their politics don't jibe with those of the GOP candidates.

Why isn't the MPAA after the politicians for this behavior? I can't 'illegally' download music to play privately on my zune, but they can just use whatever song they want to play at rallies or in commercials? And okay, I get that they can't really do that, hence the cease and desist letters, but if that was really a deterrent shouldn't they have someone trying to get permission beforehand? Maybe that makes no sense here but it's a real what the eff moment for me.
I know, right? The damage has already been done once it's been played at a convention or in a commercial. Are there special rules for political uses? And if so, my iTunes thinks that's bullshit.
I think the GOP should look into using some of Diddy's posthumous Notorious B.I.G. releases considering they too are way into capitalizing on untimely deaths of the young and the capable.
