Matching Shirts, Matching Absurd Ideas About "Sin"

I've said this in practically every election season since 2003, but if this bunch of bigots becomes our First Family, I'm seriously grabbing my French-English dictionary and saying bon voyage!

Boo, Cord. There is enough fodder to critisize Huckabee on his politics alone. No need to bring his family's unfortunate genetics into it (although I know you didn't explicitly state "they look backwater and ugly," you did, by virtue of the pic and the post, invite the commenters to do so). Ugh, I don't particularly love this post (see above), but you are wrong. On lots of points.

Just because they don’t share your views you call them bigots.
Actually, his views on homosexuals (among other things) are bigoted. It has nothing to do with sharing a view or not. Two bigots can share the same view, but that doesn't make it any less bigoted. Dig?

    Whose the hypocrite now?
I don't know. Even if Cord were wrong about Huck being a bigot, how would that make him a "hypocrite now"? That implies he called someone a hypocrite first. Further, leaving the country because you don't want to be lead by a particular political group or leader isn't bigoted (thus making him hypocritical) - usually we call them political refugees.

Huckabee seems like a nice man.
Yes he does. That doesn't make him fit to be president.

At least he has some experience.
Well, don't they all have some? Does experience alone determine fitness? He has a pretty crappy gubenatorial record on many issues, in my opinon, so I would say no.

This is not a popularity contest.
Um, yeah it is. Popularity hopefully based on political platform. Sadly GW proved that wrong. With shit for political experience and a crap platform0, lots people voted for him because he was "likeable." What is weird about this though, is that one of your points is that he is a nice man. You wouldn't have mentioned it when talking about Huck's political fitness unless it is a factor.

I wish people would realize there are more experienced Democratic candidates than Obama. Look at the resumes.
I don't know who doesn't realize that Hillary, for example, is more experienced. But as said above experience doesn't equal fitness or best for the job. Or even signify that the majority of voters will agree with their positions. Hell, not to bring up GW again, but wasn't one of his big themes when running the first time, and something people responded do, was that he was an outsider? That he wasn't a "politician," so you could trust him to clean house? I seem to remember that, but I could be wrong.

I've kind of always had an issue with the term "hate crime". I mean, if you've beat someone to within an inch of thier life, does it matter in the end if it's because he's asian or if it's because you caught him making out with your girlfriend? Assault is assault no matter how you look at it. I just wish the courts would already enforce laws that are on the books rather than making up additional ones.

On a different note, I've always found fat Christians to be hypocritical. I know that's mean but seriously, if you are a fundamental Christian, I would think you would be a thin, eco-friendly kind of person. Not a fatty riding around in a Suburban.

I think that the health care industry does need a major overhaul, but the idea of universal health care I'm afraid is a bad idea. First of all, I'm in the military so I get free health care, and I can tell you right now that a lot of Americans would not put up with our healthcare system, which I'm afraid is what universal health care would be modeled after.

Also, countries that have universal health care have TREMENDOUS taxes. Look at Canada. It's awesome there, but they tax about half your paycheck. And in England you can wait up to a year to get a doctors appointment.

I just think that this whole universal health care idea looks good on paper, but when applied there is going to be a ton of problems.

Our taxes in Canada are not TREMENDOUS. They don't tax half our paycheck, maybe a tad more than America but you do get what you pay for. We take care of all our citizens, regardless of level of income, education, religion, etc. A healthy community is a community that can contribute to the good of the nation.

Universal health care is not without its problems, but then what system isn't. That being said, I wouldn't trade it in for the world. Everyone is equal when they are ill. A homeless man is given the same treatments as a millionaire. A homeless man is also given more opportunities to rise above his poverty.

Sorry but about this subject I am passionate.

My point is, do you really want the American government dictating your health care? Besides, who would the universal health care apply to? Will it be all citizens? Will illegal aliens be able to jump in the free health care line? I just think that all this hype about how wonderful free health care is, is going to be a giant slap in the face once reality sets in. I personally don't trust the American government to provide adequite health care coverage for people. Look at who has the potential to win the presidency…I don't trust any of them.

Once again, the only thing I know is that Brett Micheal's is going to choose a blonde tramp with giant boobs as his fake girlfriend so that is where I will be focusing my attention.

He pretty much is a walking contradiction. A very heavy footed, walking contradiction. My view (and I'm pro-choice) is 80% of eggs don't get implanted in the uterus. So what, we should have a funeral for each one? Since they're on the same playing field as actual humans to people like Mike Huckabee.

One of these puds hanged a dog and his old man fired the trooper who was investigating it. He hanged a dog.

This is for Mae's comment #43 - in Stand by Me, the dead person is actually a young kid- not too fat, though we don't see much of his body. I think you're thinking of LardAss Hogan (boom bah-dah-boom bah-dah-boom)- the kid in the story who gets the whole crowd barfing at the blueberry pie eating contest. If that's what you're thinking- right on- I couldn't agree more :)

At least Tony Blair is now a memory. This just seems like a really bad, never ending nightmare of what the future may hold.

Hey Blah, Canadian here, how it works in Canada is that you are given a Health card and you have to be a legal citizen to get one. Then you just show it everytime you go to the dr's/hospital whatever and they don't charge you. If you don't have the card they will charge you. It is not a perfect system but I love it, I couldn't imagine not being able to go to the Dr or not getting an operation because i couldn't afford it. Oh and I just looked at my pay stub and it is about 23% of my net pay goes to Taxes… yah, that sucks…

megs (No. 65), thanks for pointing out the truth about our system here in Canada. Methinks a lot of Americans have been sold a bill of goods by their right-wing politicos, the medical profession and the insurance industry for years now with the result that they think our medical system here in Canada is not only fraught with problems, but orders of magnitude costlier than their own when the reality is, Americans spend more per capita for health care than anyone in any other developed country in the world.

To all those who think taxes are wrong or that Canadians pay outrageously high taxes, what do you think pays for police, firefighters, road building and maintenance, garbage collection, snow removal, disaster management, schools, sewers, water treatment, and all the rest of the necessary infrastructure to maintain a civil society?

I have written two hideously long dissertations on my love for universal health care and they have been lost in the abyss of Mollygood forever.

Nuff' said. It's really important, and taxes are pretty normal here, even with it.

not intending to be bitchy, just wanted to clear up that in the UK you don't have to wait a year. Yes, some operations take a while, but doctor's appointments are usually within the week, and there are always emergency appointments available in the morning. The NHS is admittedly a big ole' mess, but that's because of bad management, not because of lack of money (or rather, the lack of money is because of bad management, not initial availability if that makes sense)

Chel - I was commenting on the threat to go "Canadian" - a ridiculously stupid, cowardly and empty statement. Not only will it not be adhered to, but it betrays a fundamental willingness to give up instead of being an agent of good.
