Sure Looks Like Hell

If you thought Rosie O'Donnell was bad, get a load of Star Parker, a black ex-welfare recipient whom admits to having four abortions and an erstwhile addiction to crack. After becoming a born again Christian (of course), Parker is now former self-loathing; she stands in rigid opposition to welfare, abortion and crack abuse—though that last one is probably for the best.

Try to contain your laughter when Parker claims in the clip above that God's time is so different from ours that maybe the world is only 5,000 years old. Then try to contain your rage when during the clip below you realize that a crackhead whom for years benefited from the graciousness of the US Government and its taxpayers is now completely unwilling to bestow the same kindness on her fellow citizens in their times of need. This lady makes Elisabeth Hasselbeck seem rational and well-read. Is it too late to get Rosie back?

The look on Joy's face is priceless! I actually go to school with people who justify their worldviews in a similar manner and having any sort of conversation with them is a herculean feat.

I had to wiki Star Parker, what a waste of time. Mysteriously her degree in sociology/urban issues/political science from whatever accredited university she surely went to and excelled, is missing. hmmmm

Wow, I totally agree with Star Parker. They were all just attacking her, not even giving her a chance to answer one question before throwing another one at her. Sheesh! And God's time is different from ours, but I guess that's a whole different argument…

she is black. i dont think cords point was centering on her being black. i think he was just pointing out that shes black.

now, most likely had she been white he would not have pointed that out. but in actuallyity that doesnt make in racist. you see in this society if race goes with out saying, the person is assumed white, otherwise it been be clarified.

i am in no way in agreement with the standard but it is the standard. Just as he is the standard in writing for the singular. We have a white centric/male centric society where white male is the "norm."

you should take the vehlmence to society rather than at Cord. becuase as I said, sticking to societal norms such as pointing out race does not make one a racists.

he certainly didnt say she was all those things BECUASE shes black. Onnly becuase shes fuckin' stupid.

This was upsetting to watch. However, I had to watch it, so that I can always say, yes, I've heard the other point of view, so I can disagree with it. Can't wait until she goes back on drugs (though this time, she will end up addicted to prescription meds, now that she is middle class).

    xultar,
Black can't even be used as an adjective without it being racist? Really? Perhaps you're sore because "black" was grouped with "crackhead" and "welfare recipient." Sorry, but those are the facts.
    Best,

Why is it, I wonder, that some people who resolve major problems in their lives — especially some of the folks who do so through the acquisition of religion — instead of just going about their business, become zealots who're dead certain they have the answers to everything, and feel no hesitation about telling everyone else how to live? How is it that someone who benefited so much from societal largesse, and claims to be a Christian, has no compassion for others?

This woman is no less addicted now than she was as a crack-user; the only difference is her drug of choice.

Great post, Cord; it just goes to show that recovery from drug addiction doesn't guarantee enhanced intellect.

KofT, you hit the nail on the head. My dad decided to become religious after years of being an alcoholic dead-beat, and all of a sudden he had these strange ideas. One was that he couldn't date until his ex-wife got re-married, because the Bible told him he wasn't really divorced.

It's amazing to me how many people find God after being addicts, or being in jail. They simply switch addictions. They also seem to become intolerant of those who do not choose to live their life by "Biblical Law" and their "personal" interpretation of it. Why must they force their new found "addiction" down everyone else's throats?

Guess being a compassionate Atheist isn't so bad after all…

Even though I didn't agree with a single word Star Parker said, I'm glad that the View producers tried to bring balance to the group so that Elisabeth isn't ganged up on everytime she tries to voice an opinion. If you ask someone for their opinion on a show called "The View," you shouldn't then attack them for having had that opinion. I guess then, it wouldn't be good television.
