Throughout Britney Spears' revolting descent into madness, one thing that remained consistent was her ostensible solitude. That's not to say she was ever by herself, but being around people is different from not being alone. Where were her agents, record execs and brand managers to literally grab her by her fried hair – when she still had it – and force her into reality?

Maybe they sat on their hands because they didn't know she would become so far gone. But maybe they did nothing because they knew they could line their pockets with her insanity. According to Portfolio magazine, for many people, a restless, tormented Britney is worth a lot more than a levelheaded one.

• "Money shots of the 'Oops' singer can generate anywhere from $250 for the average shot of a gas station run to $500,000 for, say, X17's exclusive shaved-head photos."

• "X17, which sold $2.5 million worth of Spears photos in 2007, estimated that shots of the singer represent 30 percent of its revenue, while rival agency Splash News pegged Spears' value at closer to 10 or 15 percent of its business."

• "In all, photo agencies score an annual take of around $4 million by keeping their cameras trained on Spears."

• "From January 2006 to July 2007, Spears was featured on the covers of People, Us Weekly, In Touch, Life & Style, OK! and Star 175 times. While that may seem like oversaturation, there's a good reason for it: A magazine with Spears' mug on the front sells about 33 percent more copies on the newsstand. Within the 78-week time period referenced above, newsstand sales of issues with her on the cover amounted to $360 million."

• "On the Internet, Spears has topped the annual Yahoo search rankings for six of the last seven years, briefly dropping to number two in 2004 when Paris Hilton had a short-lived stint at number one."

• "In all, Spears fodder amounts to an estimated $75 million in annual media revenue."

And now that Anna Nicole Smith and Heath Ledger have proven that premature deaths can stoke the flames of new media like nothing else, imagine what she'll be worth when she's gone!

I said it yesterday, but no one seems to have heard me:
I think all of media should grow some balls and brains and BAN ALL BRITNEY SPEARS STORIES! She’s not even DOING ANYTHING! I think the name Britney should be banned. You need to write a story on Brittany Murphy? No problem, just rename her, actress-who-married-a-scary-looking-fraud Murphy, and continue on with your story!

    FIN!

Her mother was supposedly called in to the lastest crazy-scene. Brit was out on her curb, crying and called her mother.

So go regulate, mother. You don't regulate by taking her and that guy to Longs at 1:30 in the morning. Get your ass in bed. We can get that stuff tomorrow.

Do I have to explain how to regulate?

"I don't care if you are an adult or not. I am here now, and this is what is up. Look at you. stand aside." That is a good start.

And then let everyone think you are crazier than them and you are not going to take it anymore. It's your end of rope time. Scatter if you want to live.

Maybe if they ban photos and their hate writing she could get on with her therapy and healing. They fuel the fire with their BS and wait for something worse to happen to her! They are vultures! God is watching you freaks! You will be judged by the REAL JUDGE the same way you judge britney!

I think that the comparison to Anna Nicole is a pretty accurate one, but Heath Ledger is almost like a statistical anomaly. The fall of Anna and Britney have been uncannily comparable (even down to their gold digging boyfriend's choice of profession…both Larry Birkhead and Adnan Ghalib were photographers). Not to mention the shady characters and enablers that both keep/kept around themselves. It had gotten to the point where little shocked us about Anna Nicole and little shocks us now about Britney, but Heath was completely out of left field.

Anna, and to a lesser extent Britney, was/is a trainwreck and a self-made spectacle. Heath was not–by most accounts he was a decent, private guy.
