You Must Not Love Me

trainwreck

It took American Idol seven seasons, but it seems the show has finally driven one of its contestants to a mental breakdown. I knew something was coming last week when Brooke White's performance of Mariah Carey's "Hero" progressively got faster and faster and her voice got shakier and shakier, but what happened last night was one of the most uncomfortable things I have witnessed on television — and I've sat through two seasons of Rock of Love.

Brooke, who sang "You Must Love Me" for Andrew Lloyd Webber night, forgot her lyrics 5 seconds into the song and requested that the band start over. The look of sheer terror on her face as she realizes she has no clue what word comes next is cringe-worthy, but that doesn't come close to the awkwardness that takes place when even Paula is left speechless from Brooke's panicky performance.

As for the night's best performance, there wasn't one. Nobody blew me out of the water this week — not even my beloved Jason Castro, who will hopefully survive tomorrow's elimination thanks to Brooke's meltdown. So instead I'll leave you with an old school clip from Idol's first season's big band night. Kelly, show them how it's done.

I loved that performance by Kelly- I always wonder why they went away from that style for the show. I loved when they dressed the theme as well as sang it- it made it a lot more fun to watch. Tamyra Grey was fantastic that night as well. Kelly Clarkson's "Surrender" was still the best though.

    PS- I love David Cook.

I'm more than a little afraid for my Jason. Even though Brooke will most likely go home, who knows what could happen?

Hopefully he stays, and pulls something big next week. He won't be in the finale (the David-David finale is inevitable at this point), but it would be nice if he at least finishes in third.

I really hope Syesha goes home, she was awful. But unfortuately it'll probably be Brooke. I felt terrible for her, I thought she was going to faint when she realized she forgot the words. But didn't they tell her that restarting was "professional" when she did "Every Breath You Take"?

I was so sad that Jason stunk last night.

I'm nervous for Jason because there's always a chance Brooke will get the pity vote. But then I remember a majority of the people who vote are evil little 13 year olds.

    Kelly is the effing shit.

I love that song and I remember watching her do it the first time it aired. The first time I was blown away was when she did Natural Woman and hit this crazy ass note. This performance was when she let the world know she was winning this thing. Tamyra was her only real copmetition.

    Loves it.

god i hope brooke goes home. she's so goddamn nervous and panicky on stage… always looks like she's on the verge of tears.

she makes me uncomfortable. that said, it's taken a month for her to get on my nerves because her performance of Yesterday on Beatles week was fucking phenomenal.

and david cook? what the hell? i didn't know he could sing like that. i was sort of amazed.

god, why do i watch this crap?!

Brooke stayed!! I can't believe it-I can't stand her!! She is so whiny and pouty and can't keep her mouth shut when the judges talk. She should have been gone weeks ago.I thought Syesha was fantastic last night. Even Simon was blown away.
