Can't Keep A Good Woman Down

satcshutout.jpg

Last night's Sex and the City movie premiere wasn't all Manolos and butterflies — a large crowd of pathetic twenty-somethings was stuck outside Radio City Music Hall, despite possessing invitations to the event. Turns out the venue was oversold by 2,000 tickets. Whoops!

Despite this, look for all of the shunned guests to spend $11 on movie tickets this weekend after enjoying one too many cosmos with their girlfriends while on the prowl for a real-life Mr. Big. Feminism at its finest.

Why are these women pathetic? Whitney, didn't you just stand in line to see Gavin de Graw at TRL? I mean, I'm all for you liking whatever band you want to like, and standing in line to see said band. Just don't knock other people who do the same thing. Teensy bit hypocritical.

I second that, blue canary. Did she expect to see a bunch of 50 year old straight men? Bitch!

    Whoa…Whitney I still heart you.
And yes, I will be going to see this movie Friday night with a large group of girlfriends after we sip on a few cosmos but I don't shun you Whitney for pointing out that I am a lame-ass. I know my obsession with this show is beyond pathetic, but I don't rightly care either. So…problem solved.
And no, I'm not looking for a real-life "Big". I always want to call him "Mr. Big" but that makes me think of that 80's hair band - who I also like because I'm a lame-ass.
"I'm the one who wants to be with you. Deep inside I hope you feel it too…"

Let me clarify my point: If I were in town this weekend I would be going to see the movie with MY girlfriends, as I admittedly enjoy the show quite a bit. The people I am referring to are the girls who have been counting the days til the release and base their lives trying to be just like Carrie and Co. You know the ones — they moved to NYC thinking life would be just like SATC, and if not, it's a failure. Was I generalizing when I called the crowd "pathetic"? Sure. But that's my frustration talking — when I see girls my age or older basing their happiness on a fictional TV show, it makes me wonder what happened to strong women who live their own lives not trying to be something they're not.

I would happily ditto that, Whit. Reason #884 I'm happy not to live in NYC.

And Nicolyn, thanks for getting that song stuck in my head!! "I'm the wuh-uh-uh-uh-un."

Holla at the Midwest and our $7.50 movie tickets.

Our tickets are only $7.50 too. But I live in New Hampshire so that in and of itself explains a whole lot. READ: NH has nothing to offer…so stay the hell out! : )
    Thank you.

Pretty sure it is $9.50 for a ticket here in Tampa so a movie has to be pretty worth it for me to spend my precious money. That being said I will probably see SATC because I am a tool.

Er, SATC should never be filed under "feminism". Yeah, it helped bring back the notion that women who decide to be sexually free aren't miserable sluts, but it also stereotypes women as obsessed with money, obsessed with finding a partner, shoes, cosmos (WTF?! so now if I go to a bar and order my favorite double whiskey, people are like why aren't you drinking a cosmo? Dumb.), and gay men. And like Whitney said, it makes it so tons of people flock to NYC and expect to find exactly what Carrie had, which is so fucking unrealistic anyway. That apartment with that wardrobe working as a once a week columnist? Get a grip. Yeah, the show can sometimes be funny. And yeah, I've seen every episode. But I sure as hell ain't seein' the movie. It's feeding the stereotype that all women love SATC and idolize SJP.

Anyone dumb enough to pay to see such drivel deserves to get stiffed. SATC is 2nd in my list of useless shit that's all over the web and TV - 2nd only to The Hills.
