I Hate New York

We all know violent sexpot New York has no respect for herself – really, how could she? – but had you any idea how little she cares for the feelings of others?

In the newest episode of televised pockmark New York Goes to Hollywood, Pollard attempts to research Japanese culture for an upcoming commercial role. Of course, she goes about this not by heading to the library for The Book of Five Rings or scouring Wikipedia, but by asking every Asian person she sees if they can explain Japan. (To a Korean dry cleaner: "Is that the same as being Japanese, or, like, not at all?") HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Hilarious! And ironic, considering how the underlying joke here – New York doesn't get that all Asians aren't the same – is pretty similar to one that's plagued blacks for hundreds of years.

We'd love to see how well Pollard would take it were a Japanese person to approach her and ask how she played a crackhead so well in Jungle Fever.

I'm taking a deep breath because - oh, this is painful - I'm about to kind of defend New York. Okay. If New York didn't have this show, that inexplicably is watched by thousands, she probably would never even be asking about the differences between Asian cultures. Isn't this how people begin to learn to get past their mindless stereotypes about other people - by asking questions? We all know she's not smart - she wouldn't have a reality show if she were, because who'd watch it? But you don't have to be smart to still be able to learn how not to be a racist.

I don't trust her. She looks like a muppet. Where are this womans eyes? I have only ever been able to see false eyelashes and blue eyeshadow. I don't think I've ever actually seen an eyeball. As far as I'm concerned she's Janice the Muppets long lost black sister.

This goes on with Latinos all the time. They are distinctly different races of people with a "slight" similarity in language, yet they are lumped together by the government and other folks as if they are all one in the same. We as black Americans in particular should learn about and respect the differences of other races if we want ours to be respected and understood.

There are no "different races." There's only one. Human. I'm prepared to argue.

Naming your story "racism watch" is wrong..period
If you want to take a stand against racism or call attention to racism, by all means do it!
The show you quote is mindless and humorous.
If someone did approach Tiffany and ask about the crackhead part she played in jungle fever her reply would probably be "honey you got the wrong black person". Check one of her latest interviews, she said she wants to "be more dramatic" and play a "crackhead mom". People twist things around constantly but I just don't think this was racist, sorry.

Yeah, so if anyone ever does a comedy sketch, make sure you use "wikipedia" definitions!
Go to the consulate or United Nations to make sure all your information is correct. stereotypes have no place in any comedy sketch. stamp out funny stuff on t.v.

Look

The special brand of saints who work at jossip have to cater to every freakin denominator out there. You can't call any of the ones I've seen intolerant or judgmental toward different races. MG likes to expose different angles and then let us talk about it.

Wait, so because it is mindless and (allegedly) humorous, it cannot, also, be racist? Logical. Fallicy. There are plenty of "jokes" that are racist as hell. And this isn't a sketch, it purports to be reality - meaning she is, to some degree, playing herself. Meaning she is NOT trying to say something larger about society by playing a buffoon. She is, basically, upping her ignorance to 10 and playing upon her lack of knowledge and her reliance on sterotypes for a cheap gag that some (see above) find humorous - while having NO (in my opinion) intention of actually learning about another culture. Ignorant and racist.

The show is a fake reality show. Its scripted and she is playing a character called New York. Its not real. Blaming Tiffany would be like blaming Carol O'conner for his racist remarks when he played Archie Bunker. Most of these realiy shows are fake and people have to understand that. I would put more of the blame on vh1 and the people that allowed it to be on. I wonder how Les Moonves's wife feels about this. Maybe Julie Chen should see this and tell her boss and husband how she feels about this.

As one person wrote at least she is starting to learn the differences between people and not to make half assenine judgements as some people do.
Getting informed is the first step even in diversified New York state racism exists today.
check out the map choose a town listed in New York. I know of one specificly, in Putnam NY
try this human study over a month on any given day except the weekend. Send out a black couple to stroll around town one evening- see what happens.
Send out a hispanic couple- obviously brown- see what happens. Send out an Islamic couple an Asian couple and a white couple compare the results between all the couples and the whites and you will definately see a pattern and why the term sundown town still applies today. Getting informed is the first step. The second is using your economic power- not spending your money in towns known to be biased. It's not just history that happens to someone else. It happens to hispanics, Asians, Arabs just as it does to Blacks.

Carol O'Conner playing Archie Bunker is most definately NOT like Tiffany playing NY. If you want to torture out some comparison it is more The Larry David Show than All in the Family. Amped up, sure, but still based on that person. NY isn't playing a scripted character - she is being herself in loosely preset scenarios.

If anyone's confronted racism in an accessible way, it's Larry David. He probably hasn't helped anything, but he's confronted it no less.
