For reasons beyond me, ABC News has done a pretty thorough retrospective of DJ AM's life and his relationship with Mandy Moore. While I question the necessity of the research, I am surprised by it's findings (Did you know that DJ AM was in that awful band Crazy Town? Neither did I!). The three page piece also makes a very passive-aggressive attack on AM's looks, even going as far as to ask a Carnegie Mellon Humanities professor why attractive women might date him:

"The point is that women are much less likely than men to regard physical appearance as their primary criterion when seeking a mate. They tend to be attracted to power, prestige, skill, and strength."

Because, clearly, power, prestige, skill and strength are the adjectives that come to mind when you're talking DJ AM.

That all aside, another interesting thing about this article is how poorly it's written. It's terrible. Terrible. Check this out:

"We know why Mandy Moore is famous. She's cute as a button, and talented to boot. The question is, how does an average Joe like Adam Goldstein, DJ AM's birth name, get all the girls?"

Yuck! What? And how 'bout this randomly tossed in:

"Here's how it all started. While Mandy Moore was ringing in the New Year in Miami, she was seen with Wilmer Valderrama. But rumor has it she ran into DJ, gave him her digits, and has since begun dating him.

What does the average Hollywood hipster think of this? Danielle Welch, pierced from ear to ear, tells ABC News: "I personally think nerdy is better. I would hate to be with some guy who thinks he is just the coolest. I definitely have to be the cool one in the relationship."

Where the hell did that "hipster" quote come from? This one's the best, though:

"Well, he's an ex-rocker, although his band, Crazy Town, was a one-hit wonder. I mean, has anyone actually heard the song "Butterfly"?"

Ummm…yeah, everyone's heard the song "Butterfly," because that was their one hit. Get it? That's why they're called one-hit wonders. Wow. Did I mention this article is called "DJ AM, Man of Mystery," 'cause it is.

Come on, ABC News. You're better than this.

Cord - I think I am falling in love with you. I read this article earlier and just came out of it hurt and confused. I mean, WTF on so many levels? I'm embarrassed for you ABC

DJ AM is absolutely attractive, by all accounts nice and funny, and successful. Plus he's not a dim-witted actor, which is probably a HUUUUUGE plus in the eyes of many actresses.

I mean, they're acting like he looks like Brandon Davis's brother or Sloth from the Goonies. or something. He's CUTE, come on.

    Dumbest article ever.

Good point Bev. Plus - I am more intrigued as to the attraction to guys like Cisco Adler(sp?) than to AM. I'm mostly intrigued with regard to the conversation that took place at ABC pitching this article and the agreement that it was a good idea.
I don't find him particularly attractive, but I don't find Nicole Ritchie, Hillary Duff, Lindsay Lohan or Mandy Moore attractive either.

Yes, he is pretty cute … strange article to make a big deal out of his looks. Maybe they were desperate, or someone at ABC News doesn't like him much.

The lady who wrote this article started her acting career on "Murphy Brown" moved on to "Suddenly Susan" and then "Just Shoot Me". She is also the writer of great journalistic pieces: "50 Steamy Southern Stars" and "101 Most Sensational Crimes in Fashion". So while I agree that this article makes no sense, what DOES make sense is that an idiot “not really journalist writer” wrote it for the entertainment section of ABC’s (aka Disney) web page. It's too bad that I had to go figure that out for myself (no links to mentioned article) and I think this post is misleading in a sly way.
I mean this story isn't on the nightly news or anything. That said: DJ AM is flabby.

I always check the Entertainment section of the ABC News website after the US section out of habit, but I hardly ever see anything new (today I caught the nugget that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be released 7/21 - YAY! The bad habit paid off). They are always way behind gossip blogs. I saw the article about DJ AM, and like so many ABC articles before it, declined to read. I knew it would be crap.

I really need to find a different legitimate news site to read. The web is my only outlet to media, since I only turn on the TV to watch Lost, and I hate my local newspaper, but ABC News is getting on my last nerve.

Speaking of todays news articles, how funny was it that Boston police thought an Adult Swim promo idea was terrorism?!?

Yeah, he's attractive alright— aside from the fact that he's probably crawling with something post Nicole…

Is it possible for ABC to 'jump the shark?????'

Damn that is some sad shit to have to 'report'.

    If you go to http://www.crazydaysandnights.blogspot.com
EL has a blind item about DJ Am and Mandy..apparently its all a sham for her movie.

what the author neglects to grasp is the simple fact that DJ's- like the show-men, bandleaders, shamans and priests that came before them- slay mad poon regardless of looks.

This CLASSY picture that you posted of DJ AM, Cord, is exactly WHY I cannot stand this guy. He OWES Nicole Ritchie for putting him and his DJ career "on the map". Who's heard of the band, CRAZY TOWN? Not me!

What kind of "idiot" has the time to criticize an entertainment writer - not some war journalist - for writing… entertainment? And then has the nerve to say: "I need to find a new website for my news instead of ABC." What do you call Mollygood.com? Genius opinions from those with "journalistic" integrity? Get a life. It's like reading People Magazine about a star and getting mad because you see a pic of them not looking their best.

I love when mean people rag on people for being… mean. The writer has great credits. Look further and you'll see. Also, acting credits.
And…she clearly says that DJs are hot like guitarist. It's all in the hands. I think the only mean part about the article, since she quoted nice people saying looks don't mattter, is the last paragraph. Probably tried to be all pithy, but came out… not funny, as intended. That's my guess.

This article is no different from the ones on this website - and that's why I read it. For fun, silly writing. No one says it's genius to write comedy.
