Anya should have won, but I do appreciate them giving the nod to the "plus size" girl. I think she looks awesome in these pictures. Definitely smaller than a 14 (my guess would be a 10 or 12), but still she looks great. Good for her.

I'm with you Jen. I'm a size 14, I eat right and work out regularly and she and I do look about the same size as well. But I'll bet her skin isn't that smooth!

Also, I may get hell for saying this, but I don't think it's healthy to promote a plus size image to teenagers. I'm 35 years old plus I have had some medical issues that have made me carry more weight in the past and I do it in a healthy way, but it's rare that a teenager should carry that much weight.

And in the next issue, Seventeen will run a stick figure on the cover and tell you how to get flat abs and amazing boobs. No mixed messages there.

SHE IS NOT PLUS-SIZED. It just makes me sick that ANTM and the world are bent on calling her plus-sized, it's a slap in the face to us real fatties. While I agree with Fluffy T that it's not good to promote a plus size image to teens, I don't think any teen (or anyone else in their right minds) would think this girl is plus sized. Besides, she's doing no more damage than the waifs who inspire so many young girls to stick their fingers down their throats or starve themselves thin. And I'm sorry, but that girl is not a 14, I'd say more like a 10 or 12.

it is possible that she's a 14, although i do agree she looks more like a 10 or 12. but isn't she a pretty tall girl? i've never seen the show, but aren't all models relatively tall? that makes a difference in the size you wear. i'm 5'9 and weigh around 130 (depending on the day of the week), but can wear anything from a size 6 to a 12.

i'm telling you, i've got size 12 jeans in my closet that i wear all the time.
i've found that the more expensive the item of clothing, the smaller the size runs. but go shopping at target and your ass can fit in a size 6, too!

This girl could definitely be a size 14, depending on her height. Comparatively, I'm 5'11" and am NOT getting any thinner. I weigh 160 but I have, as maria says, a big rack. :o) I have jeans in sizes 8 through 12. And I work my ass off so I don't have that puff over my swimsuit bottom.

I think Whitney looks great and it's disheartening that she's categorized as plus-sized (as I would be). It would just be nice if we could erase that term and say they're all just models. Define the word "models" as: beautiful women who are employed to display clothing, makeup, etc. Oh, and stop airbrushing the cellulite. We need to see the cellulite.

Maria, I was like Ginnipher back in the day. Weighed about 135 at 5'9" and wore a size twelve. Man, I miss those days. Although I was really skinny, I always felt like a fatty because my friends were all considerably shorter and wore 4s and 6s.

I agree, Leela. I like Whitney, I think she's lovely - but in most of those pictures, she looks a little….crazy.

Also, instead of "promoting plus size image", I like to take the optimistic view of promoting different body shapes and sizes and being comfortable with yourself.

I think sizes are completely arbitrary. Whitney's body is hot. I've seen size 2 women that are flabby and weird looking.

She is certainly toothy in these shots. Maybe she's misinterpreting "fierce" to mean animal-like.

I don't understand how she is a size 14. The size 14 women I know weigh a hell of a lot more than she does. I don't like that she is called "plus size" when she is clearly not. This just further convinces young girls that they need to be super skinny.

A friend of mine who is a devout viewer of ANTM says that Whitney never claimed to be a size 14 on the show, that she was down to a size 8 or 10 doing the course of the cycle. For what it's worth.

She's a big girl but she's toned. I bet she's a size 14, but when you are toned, it's sexy. Bigger natural breasts, great shoulders, everything.

hey ginnipher, tall is great! at 5'11", i have a 30" waist and a 36" inseam, and nary a roll around my middle. rock the height, own it, and all that :o) and remember, all those petite bitches wish they had your (our) height. guys worship tall women, tall people get more respect at work, and we can pull off all kinds of clothing that short people can't. oh, and don't get me started on high shelves.

If you look at the quote in the first photo, it says "WHEN I wear a size 14…" which to my cynical mind indicates she's not claiming to actually be a size 14 right now, just that maybe sometime in the past she's been a 14.
I have no problems with her body - she looks great from the neck down. I don't think her face is anything special and her smile is downright freaky. She looks deranged.

Sarah you just beat me to that comment, she said WHEN I wear a size 14 etc, which to me meant that the number on your clothes doesn't matter, it's how the clothes fit on you. I totally agree with that and also yes, she can totally be a size 14 sometimes, I go from 6 to 12 depending on the brand so I don't doubt she can go from 8 to 14… On another note, Ginnipher you should try Zara, all their pants are freakinshly long, just rip out the tag if the number on it bugs you because their numbers are European i.e. that's where I need a 12. I know it says that you can have the best abs ever, and people say thats hypocritical but its different from saying "flat" abs. After all, someone thats a size 14 can be toned and twice as healthy as a size 4.

At her height, I can definitely see Whitney wearing anywhere from 8-14 depending on the brand and cut of clothing. I am 5'7, weigh 158 lbs and I wear sizes 10-14 depending on the brand and cut and look pretty similar to her size. Remember, Marilyn Monroe was a size 14!!!! They're called CURVES darlings!!!

Okay - to everyone who thinks she COULD NOT EVER be a 14 - I look exactly the same as her in a swimsuit, whether she is photoshopped or not, and I am a true size 14, sometimes a 16. I am also 20 years old. I hate being this big, because I am 5'2", and considered right on the borderline of overweight and clinically obese - but just so you all know - she is taller than me, and I look the same as her - and my body isn't permanently photoshopped!

Anya should have won ANTM. They give Whitney so many chances and she messed up over and over again. It's obvious that the producers were pushing them to pick a plus size girl because it had never happened before. It just sucks that it had to be Whitney. I mean, she was bitchy the entire time, her smile is fake looking, and they were right about her being too "beauty pageant." She's just not that likable (or photogenic, in my opinion). I have nothing against plus size girls and I think Whitney has a nice body, but she just doesn't do it for me. Meanwhile, Anya was so sweet the entire time, took great pictures, and really wanted it. Well what you have all failed to remember that this pictures are a Mags front cover.. which nearly EVERY publishiung house doctor. the tones are changed, and certain spots are air brushed.. giving a flatter smoother tummy for instance.. or thining out those calfs, hips and shoulders. I have never agreed to mags doing this.. it ends up with the girls looking like someting out of a horror film 90 percent of the time!

Okay, the thing about modeling is it's about showing off the clothes. It's not about showing off the body of the girl, clothes can look good on anyone of any body stature, and that is what fashion should be based around. I don't like the idea of a plus size model on a magazine cover either, I hate that people in the U.S. are disgusting, seriously, I am in college and everyone is gaining weight and eating poorly and it makes me disgusted. The girl looks toned though, so it looks like she is not a heffer, just bigger built. Now listen, I am 5'3"-5'4" and I am naturally curvy so I understand it's hard to stay trim, but I make sure I stay at a constant 108-110 weight, people need to make sure they find thier ideal weight and keep it. Come on guys, get active. But honestly, fashion should be about the clothes not the person wearing them.
