We know Tori Amos is an inspiration to rape victims around the world and we also understand that she uses a lot of theatrics very specific to the songs themselves during her performances. Finally, we know how precious this woman is to her fans (we've received strongly worded e-mails that assure us of this). With all that in mind, why do members of her audience insist on howling with delight when she brings a knife to her thigh during what we think is a song about sexual assault? What's hot about that, fans? Do you know you're not at a Stooges show?

i have no idea. i like tori amos alot but i don't get the fanatical fans at all.
The wolf whistle was especially tasteful and appropriate.
I would have preferred some cowbell.
juju… remember Motley Crue 81-85? I like to refer to them as the cowbell years.
Oh, yes. Too Fast For Love. I need that song now. Shout, shout, shout at the devil. I need that one too.
I love Tori too, but refuse to be a fanatic about her or anything. Except cowbells.
Yeah, you;d think a Tori Amos crowd would get the kind of obvious meaning in that. Whatever, I'm all for a little cowbell.
Wow, kakaxi, you shoulda really put that one on the "It's Genetically Predisposed" post.
thanks for the awesome info though,
playla
Tori Amos obviously wants to get raped again.
nufab, your powers of observation and interpretation are unparalleled.
I tried watching this video. Then husband walked in the room and got really pissed because of the whole "beat poet" feel of the thing. The sound also sucked really bad, so I didn't get to the part where she apparently pulled out a gun. I read the posts on Undented from people who were at the show, though, and apparently the crowd sucked through the whole thing. I've been to 3 Tori shows myself, and have never witnessed rudeness like this. For some reason a small venue that serves alcohol will generate this kind of behavior for any artist.
This was very different for Tori. She's always sung the song a capella, but then, she didn't sing it this time as Tori. She sung it as Pip, who is apparently angry at the world or something. I don't know - I get the idea behind the whole different aspects of a woman's personality thing, but I'm not delving into it very deeply. All I know is that Teenage Hustling, Digital Ghost, and Dragon are some of the best songs I've ever heard. I'm sad that I'm too broke to see her again this time around, but I figure I'll compromise by being able to pick and choose a show to download at the end of the tour for $15. Maybe I'll find one with those 3 altogether. Otherwise, I'm looking for Cooling, Take To The Sky, and Beulah Land.
So, sorry for rambling, but I'm not going back to edit. It's too early in the morning.
I love Tori, but we all know her fanatic fans are damaged.
When I hear "Me and a Gun" sung A capella, I hear a woman who is playing the victim trying to cope with a rape and move on with her life. Nothing funny about that.
But, when I see this rock version with props, I notice a woman who is no longer playing the silent voiced victim, but a woman who is taking control and is mad as hell.
That is why its hot, and that is why I am howling with delight.
