That's What Sham Friends Are For

Two months ago, hoggish kingpin Donald Trump vowed to save kindly old Ed McMahon, whose Beverly Hills home was in danger of foreclosure. Trump said he was going to buy McMahon's place and lease it back to the aging TV personality at a reasonable price. We told you then that the move was prompted by nothing more than Trump's craving for easy publicity, but we had no idea how low Trump was willing to go to get his sullied name in print.

Heyoooooooooooooo, Ed's been abandoned!

THE art of the deal seems to have eluded Donald Trump when it comes to bailing out Ed McMahon, who's in danger of losing his $5 million home. … asked the other day about Trump's help, Johnny Carson's former sidekick told Fox Business Channel, "That's kinda murky . . . Everything that seems like it's wonderful becomes unclear." He added: "That has not resolved itself yet." Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen, insisted the wheels of financial salvation are turning, albeit slowly. "This is a process that does not lend itself to moving quickly, especially in light of the economic climate," he told us.

So Trump is basically going back on his word to support America's favorite sidekick. Shocker.

While I feel bad for Ed, there's also the part of me that lives in a rented townhouse with a roommate that annoys the crap out of me most days, that really has no sympathy for him. If you can't afford it, downsize. Does he really need a $5m house? No. It's a status symbol of his past fame, and his pride won't allow him to just let it go.

You have to be kidding. Trump said he would and than someone else stepped in. How the F is he going back on his word. As usual the liberal way.. have someone else bail you out. Ed has made enough money in his lifetime for 100 of us. It is not my problem he does not know how to manage his own money. Get a job and SUPPORT YOURSELF people.

I felt bad for Ed McMahon until he admitted how the money had been spent–his wife blew it all and he didn't tell her no.

Willie Nelson got his friends to buy all his possessions when he hit hard times and he wound up back on his feet. Tell-all interviews and pity parties are just pathetic.

Yeah, not too much sympathy for Ed either. Just sell the damn house and get a condo.

No joke, kp. I can't afford to buy my own place - is Trump going to help me? (Of course I live in the DC metro area, where a $75k salary is considered lower middle class, and 1-bedroom condos in decent areas start in the $300's.)

First of all, McMahon is a tool and a half for turning his back on Trump the first time. If everyone recalls, Trump approached him and had a deal, but McMahon's dumb azz decided to try to make a few more bucks and jumped on another deal.

Now, I'm sure Trump is negotiating a short-sale with the mortgage company which takes time. If I were Trump, I'd let McMahon rent an apartment.
