75 percent of the Golden Girls (Betty White, Bea Arthur and Rue McClanahan) got together for a rare public appearance at the TV Land Awards in Santa Monica yesterday. The beautiful old trio was hugging and laughing and generally being just as adorable as you'd expect. Sadly, the gang wasn't all there, as Estelle Getty now suffers from severe dementia and can't attend events. But rest assured, her heart remains true, she's still a pal and confidante (and she always will be).

This almost brings a tear to my eye…I love the Golden Girls, and yeah, I watch it every time I have a weekday off work. Thinking about Sofia, I mean Estelle, makes me sad.

The lady that Cord and I worked for during college always reminded me of Blanche, sans the sluttiness. Althought I believe she would have slept with Cord.

I saw an episode a week back that dealt with Blanche's brother's gay wedding. It was amazing and it was done in 1987. I love these women and everyone who helped put this show on the air!

Was the theme song for this show something about "thank you for being a friend"?

Thank you for being a friend
Travel down the road and back again
    Your heart is true
    You're a pal and a confidante
And if you threw a party
    Invited everyone you knew
You would see the biggest gift would be from me
And the card attached would say "Thank you for being a friend"

I had a fried who had never heard of The Golden Girls (I KNOW, RIGHT?) & I gave her a birthday card and I wrote part of the theme song inside. It went over well.

I can't think of too many shows (or characters) that are as beloved as the Golden Girls. I love these ladies!!! I remember having Golden Girls "cheesecake nights" at midnight shift change at work, and that was only a few years ago!!! I'll raise a piece of cheesecake any time for these women. Love them!!!

What a lovefest in here! Everyone loves the Golden Girls.

My favorite GG memory? At the dyke bar around the corner from where I used to live, my friend and I went in just before last call with quarters we had scraped up from our change jars to buy one beer to split. Almost everyone was gone, but an episode of the Golden Girls has just started. We perched our butts down, sipped that delicious beer, and laughed our asses off as the bartender tried to close.

I guess they thought it would make people leave. Little did they know.

Aw, I adore these women! I love that everyone else loves them also. Thier show was truly monumental and addressed a lot of issues that no one bothers to think about. They make the idea of getting older something to be enjoyed, not feared.

    Well said, Blah.

Just looking at that picture makes me feel warm all over. Golden Girls always makes me miss my grandmother though. The stories she could tell about pickled herring and red hots . . .

I absolutely love these women. I have every season of the Golden Girls on DVD. I can't help but watch a little bit every day. I just can't help it. Looking at that picture brings a tear to my eye. You could just tell on the show that they were very very good friends and everyone needs one of those.

Well I have always loved The Golden Girls. I usually go to bed at about 1am just watching it. I can watch the episodes over and over again i dont get tired of them..They are like part of me..I have learned to love them although ive never met them. To see that Estelle is not with all three of them makes me sad. Just 2day found out that Estelle has passed away and im extremely saddened about the news. I just wish that ONE day I get to meet them even though Estelle is not here..=(

I have every season of the Golden Girls too! It helped me through my insomnia nights with my first pregnancy and with my postpartum as well. I quote the lines in life as I see appropiate. People do it with movies…I do it with the Golden Girls. It's weird because if you watch the episodes with commentaries Rue and Bea don't really remember the lines or the episodes too well. I think I know more of the lines than they do. It would be a dream to meet them, but how great it would be to spend a whole day on the actual set, eating cheesecake, and reliving some episodes with some die hard Golden Girls fans that know the lines word for word.
