We love weddings! We're going to one this weekend and we are going to cry and cry (because we love to cry, too!). But y'know who hates marriage? TV. That heartless institution thinks married couples are boring prudes, a sentiment it expresses by making sex scenes between married couples as bland as hell, if even present at all.
Marital sex on TV is "nonexistent or burdensome."
Single and extramarital sex is "glamorous" and "exciting."
That's according to the Parents Television Council, which released a study Tuesday on how sex is portrayed in broadcast primetime.
It also says those portrayals are wrong, very wrong, if not downright inaccurate.
"Everybody is having sex on TV except for married couples," PTC president Tim Winter said.
According to the study titled "Happily Never After," scenes on the major networks depicting or implying sex between nonmarried partners outnumbered similar scenes between married couples by a ratio of nearly 4-to-1. References to adultery outnumbered references to marital sex 2-to-1.
Can you believe it? A stereotype on TV, broadcast as if it were true!

Maybe on top of stereotyping, there is less marital sex on television because married couples are usually older that unmarried couples? Old people are commonly considered less sexy, and people don't like watching love scenes with "ugly people" in them. In House Of Sand And Fog, the married (and old) couple have sex… and everyone I was with was like "ew, we don't want to see wrinkly, bald people have sex."
I am pretty sure they were having missionary, though. (But then he stayed inside her when he was sleeping. Is that exciting? I don't know.)

The suits can think what they want. The sex I have in my marriage is way more hot and kinky than sex was when I was single.
Married people (or in my case just engaged) will have way hotter sex than single people because the long and the short of it is this: Single people only care about their own orgasm. Single sex = teh suck
What about just with a boyfriend…I'm not married (or just engaged, congrats btw Chelsea) but not single. I have hot sex just about every day too!!
While we're on this sort of TV topic, can someone explain why on TV the husbands are always heavy set or kinda weird looking and the wives are thin and smokin' hot??

yeah, i want to know that answer to that one too. it's in print advertising too, when they show married couples. the husband has a spare tire and the wife looks like she hasn't eaten in a few years. blargh.
