We love watching the Olympics for moments like the clip above, showcasing last night's men's 4×100m free relay (yes, the quality is bad and we can't understand a word the announcers are saying except for "Michael Phelps"). Let us set the stage for you: The team from France is favored to win. One of the French swimmers reportedly told the media: "The Americans? We're going to smash them. That's what we came here for." Oh, and Phelps is still on his quest for eight gold medals. It all comes down to the final leg, where Jason Lezak must swim the greatest race of his life. OK, maybe we're being overdramatic, but how can you not be excited after watching this?

That was pretty awesome
Phelps is a machine in the water. He could win all his events easy as long as he stays rested and can keep his endurance up.
Easy Whitney, not that kind of endurance. :)
Anyone who's dated a swimmer may know that it *can* refer to that kind of endurance, too. ;)
I was screaming at the TV yesterday. Screw you, France!
Basically the top FIVE teams broke the world record. Australia came out strong (with Eamon Sullivan breaking the world record by said obnoxious frenchman Alain Bernard) - blazing down the lane. For the 2d 100, Webber-Gale had, quite frankly, a fantastic start and caught up to the Australians within a 75, but then again, so did the French. 3d 100, Cullen's start was also, great (better than the Aussie's) but so was the Frenchman's, who had crazy turnover and had the lead by the 50, then had a killer turn and pulled way ahead the last 50. THEN, last start, great on Lezak's part. He basically drafted off recently de-throned world-record-holder, Bernard - conserving energy. Just before the 75, Lezak starts turning on his kick. Bernard is tightening up and Lezak is speeding up! Lezak really reached for the wall and just touched out Bernard. Uh-mazing. It sort of pisses me off that every paper ledes with Phelps' hope of out-golding Spitz. The story is Lezak, that was an incredible swim.
This sort of shit makes me wish I didn't quit swimming when I was in HS. I was good, y'all! Short legs!
