America, America, This Is You

Welp, things have gotten reprehensible much faster than we ever could have imagined.

McCain supporters are now screaming out "terrorist" when their candidate asks the rhetorical question "Who is the real Barack Obama?" And this happened at a McCain-Palin rally in Florida yesterday:

"Now it turns out, one of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers," Palin said.

"Boooo!" said the crowd.

"And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,'" she continued.

"Boooo!" the crowd repeated.

"Kill him!" proposed one man in the audience.

(emphasis ours)

This is what politics is now: literally and figuratively yelling fire (and calls to murder people) in a crowded theater. God bless America and mavericking and deceit and blind hate.

Update: More vile hate speech from the McCain-Palin rally in Clearwater, Florida yesterday:

Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

Video after the jump.

I saw the video on MSNBC last night and was disturbed, of course, but equally disturbing was the smirk on Palin's face after the word 'terrorist' was yelled.

This all just reeks of desperation, of course, and oh god I am hoping it keeps on backfiring on those Republicans.

Fear not. The way they're running their campaign into the ground, Grampy and Caribou Barbie are going to get blown out like Mike Dukakis did in '84 (I THINK that was the year). I think the only state he won then was Mass.

Also, I think Obama should be feeling pretty good about this. If all the republicans can do is talk about Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers, then that means they have NOTHING to run on. No issues, no real drama on Obama, nothing. All they can do is spark hatred now. And I'm loving it.

No. 9 JD says:

I wasn't aware that Obama was pulling up things from the past. I saw a campaign add that stated that McCain was irraticwhen responding to a crisis. I think that was more in reference to McCain's grandstand attempt to look like he was capable of having any impact on the financial crisis. He "suspended" his campaign, while still giving interviews in DC, and then decided to debate again when he saw that it was the best choice for his campaign.

So if you mean mentioning things from last week when you talk about Obama pulling up the past, then I'd have to disagree. This at campaign ad is now. It's relevent, its today. And it's proof that McCain doesn't need to be elected.

No. 10 JD says:

Another ad by the Obama campaign linked Grampy to Bush by stating the fact that he voted the same as him in the Senate 90% of the time this year. That also doesn't seem much like the past.

Now if you compare things like that to McCain and Palin trying to tie Obama to a guy who did something when Obama was 8 years old. I wonder which one would fit your description more?

Also, Obama does have a plan to improve health insurance. It's very similar to the plan Hilary put forward.
McCain has a plan too but it involves taxing insurance for employees from employers, and giving people a so called tax credit of $5000 to find coverage on their own.

Anyone who's ever been unemployed and needed medical insurance knows that $5000 will not cover you for a year unless you never ever get sick. So there's one answer to a problem of today.

Sorry to rant, Ohboy, but I'm not gonna stick my head in the sand and say both candidates suck. Should we all just sit out the election next month too?

While I don't agree with Obama on everything (like voting for the bailout with extra pork, and extending the wiretapping bill), there is a stark and clear difference between what he would bring to the table as president compared to McCain.

Obama would bring our soldiers home. McCain has been quoted as saying that he doesn't care if we're there for another 100 years. Considering the price we're paying in lives, money (15 billion a month), and global respect, that's a pretty big difference to me.

It was Family Guy, Stunner. Lois got talked into running against Mayor West and won, and then got corrupted by greed. So everytime she needed money her speeches would always mention 9/11 and terrorists, and she got everything she wanted. Funny ep.

The one from Sunday night was hilarious too. There was a scene when Bush was giving a speech and talking about how he knows God's plan and God wants him to do this and so on… The Peter shows up on stage and says that's funny because I have Jesus right here. And Jesus starts telling Bush off, saying that he knows nothing of his work, and how Bush ever got to be president of anything is amazing. Then Peter deadpans the screen and goes: "Wouldn't it be great if life was like this?"
