The amazing thing about this is that Naomi Watts is only 13 weeks along. I think she may have to have an episiotomy.

I think she looks absolutely adorable. I love Naomi Watts. It was always my dream to carry completely out in front like that and not look pregnant from the back. Instead I went huge all around, including in my ass.

Is Cord asking for us to swap episiotomy war stories, Kitchy? I would think that would gross him out.

Now those I don't have. I tore naturally, I didn't want to be cut.

Should I point out that belly size is absolutely no indication of baby size and chances of tearing/needing an episiotomy, though? ;)

I had an episiotomy with my first, then with the second, I told the doctor that I didn't want one. HUGE mistake! I tore in three places and it was the worst experience I've ever had with giving birth. And I have had three kids.

You know what else makes me jealous? That her boobs are still small and cute. Mine looked like bowling balls flapping from side to side.

Tearing worked much better for me with both vaginal births. But the two c-sections still worked best. *lol*

Aw, hell, I'll take the chance. :) What it depends on is how well your hip bones spread to accomodate the baby's head, and also how much you dilate during the labor process. I had episiotomies both times. I think either way you are sore for a few days.

Also, belly size is not an indicator to what the baby will weigh. Everyone carries differently, and it varies with your pregnancies.

Amen, evil. Heck, even doctors who can see and feel the exact size of everything are often waaaay off on baby size/weight predictions.

Although I've come to realize that most say "about 8 lbs" no matter what, since it's the average size of a baby and puts the odds in their favor.

April, they spread when you are pregnant. That's why pregnant ladies sport that duck waddle. I had narrow hips, and sadly, although my weight came off, my hips didn't fall back to where they were.

Also, a good side effect of pregnancy is nice nails and hair from the prenatal vitamins. It's not all bad.

    Posted: Jul 18, 2007 at 3:07 pm
    No. 21 Kitchy says:

It's not a bad, painful, or gross thing, I promise. Your joints just relax.

And yeah, the vitamins rock. After the first trimester. Because until then, they just make morning sickness worse.

Wait. Good stuff. OH! Baby moving is the coolest thing EVER.

They numb you. If you've had an epidural. ;)

Actually I never thought about if they numb you or not since I had the epi. I wonder if in natural childbirth they do local injections or something.

Who wants to bet that Cord's starting seeking out stories specifically to see how quickly we turn it into a pregnancy and delivery thread?

Who also wants to bet that I can't type. Because that question made no sense.

Replace "starting seeking" with either "started seeking" or "starts seeking," whichever you prefer.

I did not have an epidural with any of my kids. They don't freeze you, it happens too quickly, there really is no point. It's just a quick snip and it's done. Ripping with no epidural as the babies head is coming out is a completely different story, though. Like I said the epi. was ALOT more pleasant than the ripping! :)

I think like evil said, it's all individual. I've heard a lot of horror stories about ripping and a lot about doctors overcutting. And a lot of perfectly fine stories about each. It's preference and how we choose to go about it, not an absolute one way or the other.

You girls certainly don't hold anything back! Well, thank goodness I was born with wide hips. I was wide-hipped even when I weighed just 100 lbs in high school.

I'm also hoping that I will be as lucky as my grandmother who is as thin as a rail. She tells me giving birth to my dad and uncle was extremely easy.

I just wanna know Heidi Klum's secret…seriously, a hottie as a supermodel AND as a ginormous pregnant woman?! That's pretty rad. I bet we could do it all too with 3-4 nannies though ;-)

How big your hips look from the outside isn't a good indication of how large the space inside your pelvis is, and there's other factors that govern how easy or difficult a delivery is.

I tore a little with my first, but not again after that. It hurt a bunch until it healed!

I had narrow hips…I uh…I didn't rip and had no episiotomy. I hate pop-ups. Maybe it was the 2 liter bottles of fanta I was playing with a couple weeks before giving birth that helped me out, or the horse-joys of my youth.

I never knew that your hips expanded during pregnancy. That's pretty cool when you think about it.

Epis scare the shit out of me, I've heard that sometimes they can make the tearing worse; one of my girlfriends ripped alllllll the way down to her anus. OMFG.

All your joints expand, the pelvis just exands the most. It's kinda cool, you get all double-jointy and stuff.
