Rumor has it that MSNBC newsman Chris Matthews will run for senate once his contract runs out.
Seizing on those rumors, Philadelphia Gay News publisher Mark Segal asked Matthews about his stance on gay marriage. After eschewing the question - what would Matthews do about the defense of marriage act - Matthews went into a valid tirade about freedom, which could come across as support.
Segal, however, wanted specifics. What he received were expletives:

good for him the gobment needs some of that
I'm glad at least someone in Washington is forcing that fire and brimstone shit down everyone's throat.
WHAT!!!?? Who??? Another bonehead from TV??
(begins sobbing)
I…(sniff)… I guess I just never really gave myself time to grieve over the whole Reagan/Schwarzenegger/Ventura thing, you know?
Is it just me or does Chris look like he's being interviewed in a red cross tent somewhere near a flood?
I think Matthews is awesome. Last night her totally nailed Pat Buchanan. Pat had asked a panel of folks why Michelle Obama hadn't mention Christianity. They then cu to Matthews who reminded Buchanan that it was NOT the Christians Democrats, nor is there any religious test to be president.
Chris Matthews is made of awesome.
From what I've seen he's cool I'm just sick of people going from being in entertainment to making laws.
Actually, he didn't start out on TV …
When Matthews first arrived in Washington he was given a patronage job as an armed officer with the United States Capitol Police. In Washington Matthews worked for four Democratic politicians. He worked in the U.S. Senate for five years on the staffs of Senators Frank Moss and Edmund Muskie before himself campaigning for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, losing his party's nomination to Pennsylvania Congressman Joshua Eilberg in the Democratic primary in 1974. Matthews received about 23% of the vote. He was a presidential speechwriter for four years during the Carter administration. Matthews later worked six years as a top aide to long-time Speaker of the House of Representatives Tip O'Neill, playing a direct role in many key political battles with the Reagan administration.
sometimes i like chris matthews, sometimes i want to kill him in the face.
it's a pickle.
a fried pickle.
Let's not EVEN go there on the fried pickle debate. They boggle my mind and throw everything I know, love and believe about friend foods into a dizzing spiral that questions my very faith in a higher power. Where am I going with this? I am never going to post on MG this early in the morning again. I'm lying when I say this of course.
Whatever any of us may think about Chris Matthews, I think we can all agree on this:
He's spitty. Very spitty.
Not a good or a bad thing. Just a fact.
"He was a presidential speechwriter for four years during the Carter administration."
OK I'm not mad anymore then. Speechwriters are pretty much the only people I respect in politics.
