Studio executives must look at Westerns as breathing room, in that they periodically give them a credible reason to not cast brown people.

A lot more after the jump.

Here we go again. You imagine racism where there isn't any, and yet you say plenty of things yourself that can be construed as racist (the Kelly Rowland hair issue).

Can I pitch a bitch because the white people in The Color Purple were all portrayed as heartless, stupid, and bad drivers?

As far as black actors being featured in Westerns, what about Posse, directed by Mario Van Peebles, or Will Smith in Wild, Wild West? Will Smith remade that role that was originated by a white actor.

You're calling "Wild Wild West" a Western? Isn't that the one with the massive, mechanic, spider machine that trounces a town? Try "Fantasy." "Posse" was directed by Mario Van Peebles and required that he put forth a lot of his own money to produce it. Why? Because studios wouldn't fund it - too black.

And that "Color Purple" argument came out of the color blue. When did I ever say Hollywood unfairly depicts minorities? I said they unfairly exclude them from castings. And to that end, "Friends" can be set in New York City for a decade and have as few minority characters as it did.

Ha, I find a lot of people here disagree with Cord just for the sake of disagreeing with him (like on the Victoria Beckham thread with that one person who liked Posh and didn't seem to think there was anything unreasonable with paying $4000 for a make-up bag. Hell, I like Posh too, alot actually, but there is plenty unreasonable about paying $4000 for a makeup bag and all of her other spending habits). Anyway, back to this thread. Yes, minorities are sadly underrepresented on TV in America and probably elsewhere. I was just reading an article the other day on how in Mexican television the actors who are given the best roles are those that represent the 'White European' model of beauty rather than what Mexicans normally look like. Things are certainly starting to get better on American television where shows like the Office or even Grey's Anatomy represent more than just a majority caucasian cast and the token black person but you're still hard pressed to find a show that easily represents the modern make-up of the US with a brown, chinese, black, any ethnicity actor playing a part that is not necessarily lampooning their ethnicity. Don't get me wrong I don't find racial jokes offensive… some people might find the stereotypical brown/chinese guy with accent running convenience store (ie Apu on the Simpsons) offensive or racist, I think that is funny and certainly has its place. What I'm talking about is the neighbourhood on Desperate Housewives complete with an Asian family across the street who do not have the hilarious accents and own the local convenience store, but are like your typical Asian-American family. America is not just white, with some black people, and maybe one asian person. It's got tonnes of ethnicities and that's hardly represented on TV without making a big show of how that ethnicity is sooo different and here it is being represented! So yes, I agree with Cord, minorities are under represented and I would think that's fairly obvious without having to do any fancy number crunching.

All that being said, Christian Bale is definitely hot.

I think the main problem here is, women and minorities have become so stereotyped in Hollywood, that it leaves little room for screenwriters to come up with roles for them, other than half-dressed bimbos and gangstas. They seem to simply want to emulate what seems to be perpetuated in mainstream pop culture. For example, music videos.

Please, Cord, this is THEIR story. You want to make a film that features people of color, stop pointing fingers and make it. And again, stories were never meant to be literal. I am white, and if a story is told well, I can identify with any person of color telling the tale. And I know the difference between a movie and a history lesson. I know your heart is in the right place, there's just something that gets lost in your righteous indignation. I seriously believe you need a small dose of psychedelics to give your brain some breathing room (get it? bedbugsandballyhoo,
Though I understand your point, it's not as simple as you put it, which I did address earlier. Click on the second link of the post, it'll take you to an article on an internal study done at the WGA. They come up with bleak findings about their organization in relation to minorities. (Many of their black members "remained confined to UPN.") Furthermore, once a script is written, using black actors becomes a risky venture, as I mentioned when discussing the primarily black cast of "Posse." Consider this: "Most movies targeted to black audiences are ensembles, an indication that studios do not have faith that one black woman can open a film like Julia Roberts or Reese Witherspoon can."
The problem is holistic, it's not something that can be changed with one man and one movie.

Anyway, I don't want to write movies, but I've written several articles I like to think address a few of these topics, and I've linked to some of them on this site.
    Best,
    Cord

As someone who is many things in one person and not any one culture, I would like to see more faces like mine. I mean as a whole not just this one or this one.

But a lot of people living here are not just one thing, there are so many mixtures or different races. I'd love to see that acknowledged more.

On the other hand, I know it's all fantasy and I really don't care about the faces I don't see on the screen. I see alot more in my everyday life.

I can't say I've recently seen a Mexican, Puerto Rican, American Indian actress or actor on tv. It really doesn't bother me and maybe the faces don't look like mine on the tv, but they still have stories I can relate to.

I may not be able to relate to someones appearance but I can still relate to their human experiences. Whatever the color they are still human.

But I can't relate to spiders therfore I always kill them. Don't judge me.

Cord is really good looking. I like it when he makes his pouty face.

F*ck. 190 comments and less than 10 (Cord J's included) have any relevance. Ignorance reigns supreme here. I commend Cord for bringing up issues such as these. TAKE NOTE, LEARN SOMETHING. Are you all pretending to be fools just to be funny?

Cord, the bottom line is that it's racist, limited and unimaganitive (a worse sin, in my book) to demand that everyone play fair all the time. For example, Cate B is rarely my cup of tea (and is that David Cross as Ginsberg?) but I do appreciate the attempt, if they must tell a story about Dylan, to play around with people's perceptions in order to perhaps get their point across more effectively. Stop trying to rule the creative process!!!

Dolores, are you pretending to be trying to steal my pretend ex-boyfriend? Because I think we might get back together so back off.

Maybe Jared will help Cord write a great screenplay that everybody talks about on Mollygood. Methinks Cord has "Screenwriter Able To be Ethnic, Hilarious, and get through to the masses on a Small Budget" envy.

Get those claws out sar! Go get ya man. Just beware, Cord is a known heart-breaker, and also a love-taker, so be careful if you mess around with him.

Somebody get Dolores some Tom-ba Juice, stat. Girlfriend needs to chill out.

    dolores,

meaningful conversation wont happen on gossip messageboards. Look at hte lilo thread, 37 comments all by 3 people its beacuse the message boards dont matter.. its no the proper medium - enjoy cord's words. he brings up great points, but becareful just how much you learn from cord - maybe take inspiration from cord but learn a bit for yourself and emplore others to do the same. its great cord is making the points that others wont, but he takes a lot of liberties in doing so, and people like sv and bedbugs make good counter arguments to his train of thought. reguardles on who you sidewith.

you cant rely on a celeb gossip board to learn anything. mollygood is a lot like wikipedia - some facts and a lot of bullshit. i say enjoy it becuase if you wanted to be learnign about racism, you probably wouldnt be looking for those messages here.
