Take Two

Today is kind of a milestone of mine, because it's my one year anniversary at Jossip HQ. I started out as an intern over at Jossip.com for a few months before being moved over to Mollygood full-time, so it's not my real first anniversary yet, but I'm sentimental and celebrate anytime I can. I remember showing up at what I have dubbed The Tiniest Starbucks In The World across the street from Bryant Park to interview for the internship and staring across out the window at all of the celebrities and models (and Nigel Barker!). I hadn't a clue I would be there a year later, which is what made this Fashion Week exciting for me.

I swore my first year in New York City would never jade me, but I realized upon entering a Fashion Week party on Monday that it had already happened when I wasn't looking. Just being in a room with some of the most obnoxious (and unhealthily skinny) people in Manhattan made me want to down lots of alcohol and forget how I knew absolutely nothing about fashion in comparison to these Vogue interns. (For the record, I stayed sober and professional.) Luckily, Carson Kressley, one of the many loves of my life, was in attendance to boost everyone's self-esteem a bit. Seriously, he's the best friend a girl could ask for — super friendly and very complimentary. Also of note: At this particular party, cupcakes were being passed around throughout the evening, to no avail. I restrained myself.

Now on to the tents: I felt like a veteran this time around, having attended — and attempted to sneak into — a few shows in February. The most exciting part for me was Project Runway castoff Malon Breton's show, where I had an assigned seat. No more standing room in the back for me; I was third row, right behind Alex and Simon from The Real Housewives of New York City. I couldn't get over my excitement (about the seat, not about those two crazies). It really doesn't take much to make me happy. Also in attendance: Sweet P from last season's PR and Ronnie from Make Me a Supermodel.

The show was exciting, despite the fact that I wasn't too excited about most of the clothes. You could probably send models down the runway in mumus and I would still be paying more attention to the fact that they haven't eaten in days and could quite possibly fall over and break at any given moment.

No great afterparties for me this year, so I wasn't able to run into Tyson Beckford and unleash my wrath for last Fashion Week's encounter. But, of course, there's always February.

Oh, and my camera does this fun thing where it runs out of batteries at the most inopportune moments, so here's a few shots taken from my camera phone. Sorry for the crappy quality. (Shot one: A model on the runway, obviously. Shot two: Me in my assigned seat. Shot three: The backs of Alex and Simon's heads.)

Congrats again. BTW, is Carson Kressley really that nice!? He seems sooooo fun.

That's so cute… and I mean, not drinking is quite a feat in itself, but you didn't even have a cupcake? What are you, She-Ra? Who has that kind of awesome power??

I love your posts - and I'm sorry you didn't want to get jaded but then took a job at a celebirty gossip blog (aka Helping People Get Jaded Since 1994 or something). It will be good for you!!

Happy Aniversary!!! You are rubbing some elbows now! Some skinny elbows, right? I bet they were some sharp elbows. I hope you didn't get a papercut-type abrasion. I think these people should eat more often. :-)

Whitney I don't know how you do it - I passed up a piece of cake at a two year old's b-day yesterday and all I could think of the rest of the party was "cake, cake, cake". Damn if my kids ate every bite of their own cake (usually they can't finish), so I couldn't even eat their leftovers.
I would have needed a whole lotta wine to make me not be able to see the cupcakes.
Mmmmmmmmm cupcakes.
