We don't watch Grey's Anatomy because we just don't, so we have no idea what exactly is going on in all these ads on the site. In all seriousness – and we need to know this like Matt Damon needs to know if Sarah Palin believes an old man made us all out of clay – do they really say "poignant" things like "You're my person" on that show?

I'll bite–I watch the show for the few snippets of Justin Chambers, whom I have a crush on. To be honest, though, I don't remember the "You're my person" quote, because that scene probably followed a scene I didn't have on mute, otherwise known as "A scene where Justin Chambers is walking around wearing a black wifebeater".

I did, however, see the episode where Meredith goes "Pick Me. Choose Me. Love Me.", which is now on the right side of my screen. Kinda made me want to vomit–she was talking about that McDreamy dude, who had to choose between her and his (hotter, red-headed, slept-with-his-best-friend) ex-wife, but that was then remedied by "A scene where Justin Chambers makes some mean-spirited crack and reminds me of why I sometimes fall for charming assholes".

it can be a little over emotional, and a little annoying in that way ally mcbeal got annoying, in that it's so unrealistic, because real ppl with real jobs dont have that kind of fun at work, or outside of work with real coworkers

but the show is really good in that you know it's fake and your real job sucks and you hate your real coworkers. so u watch it, cause it's crack

sort of like the smurfs or the snorks. completely unrealisitc. but crack none-the-less.

i truly believe all tv-watching people can be stereotypically grouped into two categories. those who watch greys anatomy and those who watch csi (las vegas or ny, cause miami is like greys anatomy with an annoying southern accent).

this is when i start chanting C-S-I! C-S-I! C-S-I!

My own system would divide Law & Order SVU (terrible, trite and unwatchable: watchers probably also watch Grey's and My Name is Earl) from the original L & O (fantastic, and watchers probably also watch Frontline, 30 Rock, and The Office).

I'm with payter - I don't care if Lost is cool to anyone else, because I'm addicted. I actually sit through commercials to watch that show (the TV in my house only gets turned on to watch something other than DVDs for those 16 hours a year).

I really think I'm in a whole 'nother category, though. We research BBC shows and find them on torrent sites. I'm now also addicted to Doctor Who (I've watched all but 1 of the 10 Doctors now), and in the past month watched every episode of Jekyll and Randall & Hopkirk (deceased). We've also downloaded all of Terry Jones' documentaries (The Barbarians series rocks), Ripping Yarns, Robin Hood, and a bunch of other cool British shows.

Oh yeah, we also just downloaded all the seasons of South Park and Danger Mouse. Cartoons are awesome. :)

dang you guys type fast. well, since my original theory doesn't work since some people don't like both shows (not even csi? really? ok i'll have to suck that up) i'm going to go with either you may watch shows from one category OR the other but not from BOTH.

the basis being that cranky people (like me) watch cat 1, cut out the sentimental crap and get to the humor and crime solving. and nice people watch cat 2, being able to empathize with characters and care about their wellbeing and such.

cat 1

csi ny and las vegas
law and order (reg)
law and order CI
psych
burn notice
30 rock
office and lost (too popular, on both)
chuck
eureka
fringe (saw the premier, love it)

cat 2
greys anatomy
house
monk
ugly betty
law and order SVU
office and lost
90210

i'm going to hide under my desk and see what happens :)

oilybohunk7: The "Ripped from the headlines" stuff can be kind of lame, but, thru my many years of watching L&O, I've learned that typically, only the original crime is "from the headlines", while the motive, murderer, twist, etc., are all totally different. At least for the original: I have no knowledge of SVU.

Wow, my afternoon is lame if I'm defending a TV show.
